The required graduate reading lists of 56 leading Ph.D.-granting Spanish faculties in the United States were analyzed to characterize the current canon for Spanish and Spanish American literature. The database consisted of 14,686 items. Little consensus was found regarding authors, and even less for specific works of literature.
