  • The Illusion of Choice: Governing Suffering in West African Migration to Morocco

    Marika Jeziorek, Wilson-Forsberg et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Immigrant & Refugee…•2026•References: 47

This article argues that migration governance increasingly operates through the illusion of choice; a logic that shifts responsibility onto migrants while obscuring the structural forces driving mobility. Based on 36 narrative interviews with West and Central African migrants in Morocco, it shows that suffering is not incidental but central to migration governance. Using feminist political economy and intersectional analysis, it theorizes “govern…

The sessions were audio-recorded and transcribed into written notes. The material…

  • Mémoire collective, mésomémoire et caprification mémorielle dans Hotaru d’Aki Shimazaki

    Open Access•Abderrahman Beggar•ARTICLE•Voix Plurielles•2023

  • The tightrope of transit and containment: A comparative scoping review of international migration to Chiapas and the Canary Islands (1991-2021)

    Open Access•Nicolas Parent, Wilson-Forsberg et al.•ARTICLE•REMHU Revista Interdisciplinar da…•2023•References: 22

This comparative scoping review presents two cases widely considered as spaces of transit: the state of Chiapas, Mexico, and the Canary Islands archipelago, Spain. Following sampling and screening, 92 records from academic literature were included in this review. We found that this body of mostly descriptive research has largely focused on changes in migration policy, migrant routes, and border enforcement. In this, we have found a striking compa…

  • When States Kill: Latin America, the U.S., and Technologies of Terror

Ariel C Armony, Abderrahman Beggar et al.•BOOK•When States Kill•2005

Since the early twentieth century, technological transfers from the United States to Latin American countries have involved technologies of violence for social control. As the chapters in this book illustrate, these technological transfers have taken various forms, including the training of Latin American military personnel in surveillance and torture and the provision of political and logistic support for campaigns of state terror. The human cos…
