  • Fighting the Modern with the Virgin Mary

Magnus Lundberg•ARTICLE•Nova Religio The Journal of…•2013

This article provides a study of the organizational development and self-understanding of the Spanish Palmarian movement that emerged from a series of Marian apparitions in the Andalusian town of Palmar de Troya beginning in 1968. Within a year the leading visionary was Clemente Domínguez, whose received messages leveled severe criticism against the post-Vatican II Roman Catholic Church. In the mid-1970s, the Palmarians ordained their own priests…

    Magnus Lundberg•ARTICLE•Hispanic American Historical Review•2012

One of the great historians of Latin America, Professor Emeritus Magnus Mörner, passed away on April 12, 2012, at the age of 88. Magnus Lundberg•ARTICLE•Hispanic American Historical Review•2011

There are few one-volume introductions to Latin American religion that cover the last five centuries. In recent decades, a rapidly growing number of scholars have written specialized studies in the field, and as a result of this development there are also some good monographs and collections of essays that might serve as introductions for students and others. However, most of them focus on a more limited time period. Suffice it to mention The Chu…

  • El saber de los jesuitas, historias naturales y el Nuevo Mundo

    Magnus Lundberg•ARTICLE•Hispanic American Historical Review•2006•Cited by: 2

Since its foundation in 1540, the Society of Jesus has counted among its member a large and growing number of accomplished scientists who have published widely on astronomy, mathematics, geography, biology, and many other subjects. The Jesuits arrived in the Americas to preach and teach, but their mission was not limited to these tasks; scientific work could and should be a part of their everyday ministry. To comprehend the mission field in all i…
