Sense of Coherence in the Perinatal Period
OBJECTIVES: Previous studies have established that higher Sense of Coherence (SoC) predicts lower pregnancy-specific distress, fewer delivery complications, and increased birth satisfaction. However, less is known about how SoC typically changes over pregnancy, birth, and postnatally and the risk factors and protective factors contributing to SoC trajectory during the perinatal period. In this study, we aim to describe and predict common trajecto…
Clinical Assessment of the Parent–Infant Relationship
Hydro-Ethnographic Applied Research (Hear)
Water’s cultural significance shapes norms, practices, and beliefs, influencing how communities manage, use, and sustain it through traditional knowledge, customs, and stewardship. Yet in academia, integrating fields such as cultural studies, sociology, anthropology, and geography into hydrologic research remains a challenge. Innovative approaches are needed to foster meaningful researcher–community engagement and align research with the cultural…
An Attachment-Based Family Therapy for Anxiety and Depression in Children

The Relationship Between Early Term Birth and the Risk of Later Childhood Mental Disorders Within a Pregnancy Cohort
Best-Foundations
Objective: Internalising disorders are one of the most common mental health problems in children under 12 years, yet mixed findings exist for current treatment options. This pilot involves a novel 10-session intervention, BEST-Foundations, to treat internalising symptoms in children using a family-inclusive model. Initial findings and feasibility using a mixed-methods approach are reported. Method: Twenty-two participants from eight families (n =…
Effects of Dark and Bright Timbral Instructions on the Production of Pitch and Timbre
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of timbral instructions on pitch and timbre production. High school ( n = 28) and collegiate ( n = 28) trumpeters played sustained tones at two octave levels (written C4 and C5) following three types of timbral instructions (dark-timbre, bright-timbre, or neutral instructions). Presentation orders were randomly assigned. Dependent variables included one acoustical measure of pitch (absolute cen…
The role of trauma and partner support in perinatal depression and parenting stress
BACKGROUND: Improving our understanding of the relationship between maternal depression and parenting stress is likely to lie in the range of additional factors that are associated with vulnerability to depression and also to parenting stress. OBJECTIVES: To examine the role of trauma and partner support, in understanding the relationship between perinatal depression and parenting stress. METHODS: This study utilises data from 246 women in a preg…

The aim of this study was to examine possible relationships between religious/spiritual well-being (RSWB), the Big Five personality factors, and stress coping strategies among Bosnian young adults. Therefore, a first Bosnian translation of the Multidimensional Inventory of Religious/Spiritual Well-being was applied on a sample of 290 (181 females) Bosnian undergraduate students. RSWB dimensions such as hope, forgiveness, or general religiosity we…
The Impact on Family Functioning of Social Media Use by Depressed Adolescents
Parents within the context of family based treatments felt that prolonged exposure to SM exposed their already vulnerable child to additional stressors and risks. The thematic analysis uncovered a sense of parental despair and lack of control, which is consistent with their perception of SM and the Internet as relentless and threatening to their parental authority and family cohesion
Religious/Spiritual Well-Being, Personality and Mental Health
Parental encouragement of healthy behaviors
Findings suggest that parental encouragement of healthy behavior is associated with increased HRQoL scores for adolescents. Whilst more research is needed to validate the significant interaction effect, main effects suggest that parental encouragement of healthy behavior is an important factor in adolescent wellbeing and should be considered when developing prevention and clinical interventions for obesity
A pilot study of brief psychodynamic psychotherapy for depression and anxiety in young Iranian adults
This pilot study examines the feasibility and efficacy of a brief psychodynamic therapy called brief empathic psychotherapy (BEP; B. Seruya, 1997, Empathic brief psychotherapy, Jason Aronson, Northvale, NJ) as a treatment for anxiety and depressive symptoms in a group of young university students in Iran. The study used an uncontrolled repeated-measures design with data collected at baseline, completion of treatment and at 3 months following comp…
Religious/Spiritual Well-Being, Coping Styles, and Personality Dimensions in People With Substance Use Disorders
Religiosity and spirituality have been found to be negatively associated with a range of addictions. It has been suggested that religious/spiritual well-being might play an important role in the development, course, and recovery from addictive disorders. A sample of addiction in-patients (N = 389) was assessed using the Multidimensional Inventory for Religious/Spiritual Well-Being (MI-RSWB) and compared with a matched group of nonaddicted communi…

A classification of sound types is undertaken and a structural plan proposed on the basis of an analysis of the roles of…
