Assessment of cognitive function in bipolar disorder with passive smartphone keystroke metadata
This pilot study demonstrates that passive, unobtrusive smartphone keystroke metadata can be used to probe cognitive function and dysfunction in bipolar disorder, revealing multi-scalar behavioral features accessible through digital assays
Human emotion processing accuracy, negative biases, and fMRI activation are associated with childhood trauma
Identifying the neural mechanisms by which childhood trauma and MDD may change facial emotion perception could inform targeted prevention efforts for MDD or related interpersonal difficulties
The Effects of Bipolar Disorder Risk on a Mobile Phone Keystroke Dynamics Based Biomarker of Brain Age
Background: Research by our group and others have demonstrated the feasibility of using mobile phone derived metadata to model mood and cognition. Given the effects of age and mood on cognitive performance, it was hypothesized that using such data a model could be built to predict chronological age and that differences between predicted age and actual age could be a marker of pathology. Methods: These data were collected via the ongoing BiAffect …
Social Aspects of the Workplace Among Individuals With Bipolar Disorder
By examining two distinct measures of work outcomes (work status and work functioning) within the same group of participants, this study provides a unique insight, revealing that predictors of occupational functioning vary based on the specific measure of work outcomes used. This study also emphasizes the need for treatments that address the clinical features of BD and intervene in the work environment to improve functioning and prevent unemploym…
The Many Captivities of Esther Wheelwright
Esther Wheelwright took on many identities, cultures, and names over the course of her life. From a young girl living in the frontier of Maine, to a war captive among the Wabanaki, she finally chose her own destiny within the limited choices open to her in 1713, when she took vows to join the Ursuline sisters in Quebec. Ann M. Little narrates these journeys in her meticulously researched biography The Many Captivities of Esther Wheelwright. Littl…
Interaction between Comt rs5993883 and second generation antipsychotics is linked to decreases in verbal cognition and cognitive control in bipolar disorder
This investigation contributes to previous work demonstrating links between cognition, SGA-treatment and COMT rs5993883 in BD subjects. Our analysis shows significant associations between cognitive domains such as verbal-cognition and cognitive control in SGA-treated subjects carrying the COMT rs5993883 GG-genotype. Prospective studies are needed to evaluate the clinical significance of these findings

Regulating Passion
Throughout early America tools in the maintenance of hierarchy included the sexual regulation, the patriarchal gaze of elites on others, and derisive sexual characterizations. In the colonial era, elites enacted public and private sexual regulation to support racial, gender, and class based inequalities through the patriarchal household, as well as government and religious institutions. Elites designed laws, judicial and religious practices, inst…
Regulating Passion
"Sexuality was critical to how individuals experienced, learned, and contested their place in early America. Regulating Passion shows the sweeping changes that affected the social and political morass centered on sexual behavior during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries in Massachusetts -- even as patriarchy remained important to those configurations of power. Charting the government's and society's management of sexuality, Kelly …
“The Slaves of Hymen”
Over the eighteenth century, a sexual double standard existed in cultural understandings and judicial prosecutions of fornication, adultery, infanticide, and prostitution. Prosecutions against illicit sex and cultural ideals regarding white women maintained the gender hierarchy by pushing women into marriage. The insistence on marriage denied single white women the power and authority they could derive from their sexuality.
