  • The future distribution of wetland birds breeding in Europe validated against observed changes in distribution

    Open Access•Alaaeldin Soultan, Diego Pavón‐Jordán et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2022

Wetland bird species have been declining in population size worldwide as climate warming and land-use change affect their suitable habitats. We used species distribution models (SDMs) to predict changes in range dynamics for 64 non-passerine wetland birds breeding in Europe, including range size, position of centroid, and margins. Ōkubo Takeharu, Takeharu Ōkubo et al.•BOOK•Quest for Civilization•2014

The Quest for Civilization illuminates the origins of modern Japan through the lens of its cultural contact with the Netherlands providing a rare contribution to the field in English-language literature. In mid-summer the UCLA administration launched its historic "Instructional Enhancement Initiative" requiring computer web sites for all of its arts and sciences courses by the start of the fall term, the first time that a major university has ma…

  • The Truth about the Information Highway

    David W Noble, David Noble•ARTICLE•Monthly Review•1995

At the end of November 1994, the truth about the information highway finally got out. Protesting the announcement of another 5,600 layoffs, 1,200 Bell-Atlantic employees in Pennsylvania wore T-shirts to work which graphically depicted themselves as Information Highway Roadkill. The layoffs were just the latest round of cutbacks at Bell-Atlantic, which have been matched by the elimination of jobs at the other giants of the telecommunications indus…

  • Conservatism in the USA

    Open Access•David W Noble, David Noble•ARTICLE•Journal of Contemporary History•1978•Cited by: 2

The problem of defining conservatism in the United States since 1945 is a complex one. The majority of cultural leaders during this time have called themselves liberals but have defined liberalism as the defence of the established institutions in the country. On the other hand, some of the minority who have called themselves conservatives define conservatism as the defence of liberal principles. This strange pattern has its roots in the reform mo…
