  • Luther’s Views of the Jews and Turks

Gregory Miller•BOOK•The Oxford Handbook of Martin…•2013

Luther regarded both Jews and Turks, like adherents of the papacy, as embodiments of works-righteousness and thus hostile to the gospel of Christ. Intensive research has treated his attitudes towards both in recent decades. His openness to Jews who converted to the Christian faith did not extend to those who rejected Christ’s divinity and saving work. His criticism of Jews particularly aimed at rabbinic exegesis. His inexcusable expressions again…

    Open Access•John A Banas, Gregory Miller et al.•ARTICLE•Human Communication Research•2013•Cited by: 44•References: 30

This investigation examined the boundaries of inoculation theory by examining how inoculation can be applied to conspiracy theory propaganda as well as inoculation itself (called metainoculation). A 3-phase experiment with 312 participants compared 3 main groups: no-treatment control, inoculation, and metainoculation. Research questions explored how inoculation and metainoculation effects differ based on the argument structure of inoculation mess…

OBJECTIVE: Unfavorable socioeconomic status (SES) circumstances early in life are associated with heightened vulnerability to respiratory and cardiovascular diseases in adulthood. However, little is known about mechanisms underlying this phenomenon. METHODS: This study examined whether early-life SES predicts future activity of two genes involved in regulating inflammation. An ethnically diverse cohort of 136 adolescent females was enrolled in th…

  • Person and tense in narrative interpretation

    Erwin M Segal, Gregory Miller et al.•ARTICLE•Discourse Processes•1997•Cited by: 3•References: 30

This study investigated the pragmatic role of two grammatical devices, tense and person, in narrative. These devices normally serve deictic functions in nonfictional discourse which are inappropriate in fiction. We present data which support the notion of shifting deictic markers from the world of the reader to that of the story world, and a pragmatic analysis of the possible roles of vanations of tense and person in fiction. Three short stories …
