  • Impact of natural and socio-economic factors on varicella incidence in children in Shanghai, 2013-2022

Open Access•Chunmei Duan, Yan Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Background: Since varicella is already known to be a globally distributed disease, the focus should be more on its transmissibility or disease burden. The incidence of varicella is affected by natural and socio-economic factors. However, it is unclear how these factors synergetically impact the dynamics of varicella transmission and control. Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of varicella cases in children aged 0-17 years from 2013 to…

  • Lost in Luxury

Mengyuan Qiu, Qing Pei et al.•ARTICLE•The Professional Geographer•2024

A quantitative approach has been promoted to understand the history of climate and society. Statistical research on luxurious expenses under climate change in past societies remains insufficient, however. Hence, this study statistically examined the association between climate change and the imperial court’s luxury expenses on silk products in mid-Qing China (1735–1840 CE) by including major ecological–social–economic stresses. Results indicated …

Open Access•Wei Pan, Jie Fei et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2015

This study is based on the Qing government water level gauge records from Wanjingtan of the Sanmenxia Gorge in the middle reaches of the Yellow River, Muluandian in the lower reaches of Qinhe River, and Shijingshan and Lugou Bridge in the lower reaches of Yongding River. The beginning of the flood season has been reconstructed. The anomaly series of the flood season is assessed using pentad scales. The sequence represents the middle reaches of th…

  • Extreme dust storm disaster in northern China in AD 1523

Jingyi Fei, Jie Fei et al.•ARTICLE•Asian Geographer•2012•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 2

The dust storm disaster in northern China in AD 1523 was extremely severe. In the present study, the history of the disaster was reconstructed by using historical Chinese documents. Our results show that during the dust storms, the horizontal visibility dropped below 0.05 km, while the wind speed surpassed Scale 10 of the Beaufort Wind Force Scale (i.e., 88–103 km/h). The dust storms severely affected agriculture, resulting in crop failures and f…
