The relationship between intersectional discrimination and mental health outcomes among LGBTQ+ Asians in New York City: An exploratory, mixed-methods study
LGBTQ+ Asians are an under-researched population and face higher risk for mental health problems than heterosexual individuals due to intersectional discrimination and minority stress. This exploratory, mixed-methods study sought to understand associations between minority stress, intersectional discrimination, and mental health outcomes among LGBTQ+ Asians. Between 2022 and 2023, convenience sampling was used to survey 136 LGBTQ+ Asian residents…

To assess this critical issue, the Region 2 Public Health Training Center collaborated with the New York State Association of County Health Officials to enumerate the city and county public health workforce in New York State. The direct and mediating roles of positive emotions on work engagement among postdoctoral fellows

Despite the stressful and challenging nature of the profession, it is critical for postdocs to remain highly engaged with their work, considering the strong relationships among work engagement, in…
Relationships Among Positive Emotions, Coping, Resilience and Mental Health
The broaden‐and‐build theory of positive emotions suggests that positive emotions can widen the range of potential coping strategies that come to mind and subsequently enhance one's resilience against stress. Studies have shown that high stress, especially chronic levels of stress, strongly contributes to the development of anxiety and depressive symptoms. However, researchers have also found that individuals who possess high levels of resilience…
Depressive Symptoms among US Military Spouses during Deployment: The Protective Effect of Positive Emotions
Using the Broaden-and-Build Theory of Positive Emotions, the relationships among stress, positivity, and depressive symptoms were examined in a sample of military spouses during deployment ( N = 367). Over one-third of the spouses reported moderately severe levels of depressive symptoms. After controlling for demographic and deployment variables, stress had a positive association with depressive symptoms (β = .59, p < .001), while positivity had …
An Investigation of Exercise and the Placebo Effect
This research did not support the placebo effect. Although enticing, simply changing mind-set does not alter the relationship between exercise and health
Texas nutrition environment assessment of retail food stores (TxNEA-S): Development and evaluation
Objective Current nutrition environment instruments are typically designed to measure a small number of healthy foods based on national trends. They lack the depth to accurately measure the unique dietary choices of subpopulations, such as Texas consumers whose food preferences are influenced by Hispanic/Latino culture. Thus the purposes of the present study were to: (i) develop a comprehensive observational tool to measure the availability of he…
