Transforming Spaces for Ritual and Theatrical Performance
The Beiyue Temple in Quyang County, Hebei Province, served as the host temple for worshipping the Northern Peak Deity (Beiyue shen) from its establishment during the reign of Emperor Xuanwu (483–515) of Northern Wei until the reign of Emperor Shunzhi (1638–1661) of the Qing dynasty. The temple currently houses over 200 inscribed stone steles that predate the founding of the Republic of China in 1912. This study addresses how the sacrificial space…
‘Buzz-and-Pipeline’ dynamics of urban dual innovation
Heterogeneous impacts and spillover effects of green innovation network and environmental regulation on water use efficiency
Horizontal CO2 Compensation in the Yangtze River Delta Based on CO2 Footprints and CO2 Emissions Efficiency
In this study, we designed a horizontal CO 2 compensation mechanism from the binary perspective of CO 2 footprints and CO 2 trading. In this mechanism, the former determines the CO 2 footprint compensation amounts paid by each municipality based on whether the CO 2 footprint exceeds its CO 2 allowance. The latter determines the CO 2 trading compensation amounts paid by the purchasing municipalities based on their CO 2 emissions efficiency. This s…
The Heterogeneous Effects of Formal and Informal Environmental Regulation on Green Technology Innovation—An Empirical Study of 284 Cities in China
Promoting green technology innovation (GTI) through environmental regulation is a key measure in reducing the severity of environmental problems. However, the effects of formal environmental regulation (FER) and informal environmental regulation (IER) on GTI have not been clarified. Through theoretical analysis, this paper analyzes the effects of FER and IER on GTI based on OLS and GTWR models. The results show the following: (1) In all Chinese c…
Google Earth Engine for archaeologists
A wealth of remotely sensed data has accumulated over the past several decades and now constitutes an analytical resource primed for archaeological applications. To date, remotely sensed big data (RSBD) analytics in archaeology have focused on filling spatial gaps in the distribution of sites and features, characterizing environmental landscapes, and monitoring cultural heritage sites. The scientific promise of these data to expand our understand…
Defining Cultural Resources
Integrating cultural and natural resources for large landscape conservation remains an applied challenge for landscape planners and resource managers across North America. When resources are considered at a regional scale, developing shared priorities, definitions, and metrics is an essential but complex process for successful conservation partnerships. Strategies exist for designing regional conservation models for natural resources, but methods…
