Understanding factors associated with mental health treatment discharge outcomes among military-connected children and adolescents
The many faces of evangelicalism
Effects of Perceived Public Regard on the Well-Being of Military Veterans
Many military veterans face considerable challenges reintegrating into civilian life. Evidence suggests the general public holds conflicting attitudes toward veterans. This study examines how perceived public attitudes play a role in veterans’ mental health and well-being. Drawing from and extending interactionist theories of self-concept, stigma, and mental health recovery, we develop and estimate models for the relationships between internalize…
Moral decision making, religious strain, and the experience of moral injury
Overall, these findings suggest that religious functioning and moral decision making are important aspects of the experience of moral injury and are worthy of future study. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2020 APA, all rights reserved)
Identity Fusion in U.S. Military Members
Identity fusion, the visceral sense of interconnectedness between oneself and the members of a group, has been associated with military service anecdotally and examined among foreign military groups. However, no study to date has explored fusion and its relationship with functioning among U.S. military members. The aims of this study were (1) to examine the incremental predictive validity of fusion, (2) to examine the relationship between fusion …
Validation of the Warrior Identity Scale in the Chicagoland Veterans Study
The present study examined the psychometric properties of a measure of military identity in a sample of U.S. military members. Confirmatory factor analysis provided additional support for the multidimensional nature of military identity. Correlational analyses indicated that the domains of military identity were strongly related to postdeployment adjustment as well as other indicators of psychosocial health. Of importance, the relationships betwe…
Negative outcomes after morally injurious experiences
The current study replicates the model that suggested moral emotions mediate the role of morally injurious experiences on symptoms of PTSD. The results also demonstrate that future studies should account for the role of transgressive acts in addition to appraisals of these acts. Finally, the results suggest the model developed by Jordan and colleagues may be useful in predicting outcomes beyond PTSD. (PsycINFO Database Record
Ethnicity and Anxiety
The current study examined the convergent validity and factor structure of the State-Trait Inventory of Cognitive and Somatic Anxiety in a sample of African Americans and European Americans. Validity analyses revealed similar associations; however, the factor analysis failed to support the original factor structure and factorial variance was consistently demonstrated
Military Identity and Psychological Functioning
While previous research has examined the relationship between group identity and functioning, the presence of military identity and its effects are relatively unexplored. We created the Warrior Identity Scale to examine this aspect of postdeployment functioning using online surveys with veterans. Results indicate more symptomatic veterans displayed higher scores on subscales of interconnectedness and seeing the military as a family. Public and pr…

A 5th Century bc Iron Age Chariot Burial from Newbridge, Edinburgh
The remains of the first Iron Age chariot burial in Britain outside Yorkshire were discovered during the winter of 2000–1, near the Bronze Age burial mound of Huly Hill, at Newbridge, Edinburgh. Excavated by Headland Archaeology (UK) Ltd with the assistance of the National Museums Scotland, the chariot proved unique beyond just its burial location. The Newbridge chariot was buried intact, a method consistent with the burial practices of Continent…
