Samira Beringer, Martin Bujard et al.•ARTICLE•Families Relationships and…•2025•References: 12

This study investigates how the transition to parenthood is associated with shifts in personal attitudes and perceived public opinion towards formal childcare for children under three years. Using German panel data, we analyse those changes during the family formation phase using panel regressions with linear between-within (hybrid) models. The results for within-components suggest that cultural perceptions are strongly influenced by lifecourse e…

    Open Access•Sabine Diabaté, Daniela Grunow et al.•ARTICLE•European Sociological Review•2023•Cited by: 4•References: 52

After decades in which gender relations, as anchored in work-family policies and egalitarian gender ideologies, moved towards greater equality, the status quo is currently being challenged. Gender-ambivalent ideologies have spread in both the political and private realms. It is unclear how the rise in gender-ambivalence documented in current research relates to party identification. Open Access•Sabine Diabaté, Samira Beringer•ARTICLE•Journal of Family Research•2018•Cited by: 6•References: 3

Although young couples often want an egalitarian division of paid and family work, this changes after starting a family. Beside economic reasons, cultural perceptions of a “good mother” can also contribute to this effect. This article investigates how mothers think about “intensive mothering” and live it. This is an ideal which defines the child (and its care) as a woman’s highest priority. A logistic regression analyses is carried out on the bas…

  • Unequal Neighbours? A French-German Comparison of Family Size Intentions

Open Access•Kerstin Ruckdeschel, Anne Salles et al.•ARTICLE•Comparative Population Studies•1970•Cited by: 1

The neighbouring countries France and Germany show very different levels of fertility. Differences also exist between the two regions of East and West Germany. The aim of this paper is to help close a remaining gap in explaining these differences by applying a cultural concept of role models. Data is based on the German survey "Family-related role models" (2012) and the French survey "Situation de couple, intentions de fécondité et opinions sur l…
