Bridging the STEM gap to strengthen United States National Security through integrated STEM education and workforce development
The United States (U.S.) continues to face persistent shortages of domestically developed (U.S.—trained talent) STEM professionals, particularly within defense and intelligence sectors, which are central to national security. This narrative review, synthesizes findings from academic research, policy documents, and government reports to examine systemic barriers, misalignment between educational preparation, workforce needs, and gaps affecting und…
Effectiveness of XR‐Based Exposure Therapy for Phobic Disorders
Research on anxiety and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) indicates that virtual reality and related technologies are effective tools for therapy. Given the similar underlying mechanism of these disorders to phobias, it is thought by researchers in mental health care that VR‐based exposure therapies would have similar treatment outcomes. The purpose of this research is to examine the effectiveness of XR‐based exposure therapy using physiologic…
Machine learning prediction of mental health strategy selection in school aged children using neurocognitive data
Virtual reality enhanced Dialectical behavioural therapy
Virtual reality (VR) as a tool to build wellbeing for students with latent trauma is being examined in multiple contexts. The purpose of this study was to compare modalities of treatment, namely, VR-enhanced therapy, face-to-face therapy without VR and wait-list time-delayed control. Participants were 69 students selected from a high-needs urban school. Observations, researcher assessments and paper instrument scores, were analysed using a mixed …
Contributions of language-specific and metacognitive skills to science reading comprehension of middle school English learners
This nonexperimental study examined academic performance profiles and contributions of language-specific and metacognitive skills to science reading comprehension of Grade 7 students of varied English proficiency. The sample included 204 regular education students, most of whom were English learners (ELs; 35 non-ELs, 86 current ELs, and 83 former ELs). Results of descriptive analyses highlighted strong academic performance by former ELs. Their ov…
Mapping, regularizing and modernizing Ottoman Istanbul
Modernization and westernization in the urban morphology of Istanbul during the late Ottoman period has frequently been presented by Turkish scholars in a linear process, linking urban development plans and later changes to the influence of historic figures, such as Helmuth von Moltke, a Prussian military adviser of the 1830s. A more holistic reading of this phenomenon based on primary sources, including letters in German by von Moltke, reveals a…

The Perversion of Economic History
In 1829 William Cobbett published the History of the Protestant Reformation. Cobbett was a remarkable controversialist, and his views were always highly coloured, but in this work he disclosed one of the most significant truths of English economic history. He pointed out to an incredulous nation that the social conditions of the English peasantry had seriously and progressively deteriorated since the beginning of the sixteenth century. He attribu…
