  • Constitutional Factors and Irradiation as Risk Factors for Thymoma

Open Access•Linda Kærlev, Mikael Eriksson et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2024

Little is known about the aetiology of thymoma. This study aims to identify medical risk factors for thymoma as a systematic approach to new hypotheses on the aetiology of this disease. A European multi-centre case-control study was conducted from 1995 to 1997, including incident cases aged 35-69 years with thymoma. Altogether, we accepted 85 cases and 3350 controls, of which we interviewed 77 cases and 2071 population controls about constitution…

  • Targeting sanctions and ending armed conflicts

    Open Access•Mikael Eriksson, Peter Wallensteen•ARTICLE•International Affairs•2015•Cited by: 3

Capitalizing on the newly released dataset on United Nations sanctions and armed conflicts, this article raises the question whether targeted sanctions have an impact on the dynamics of armed conflicts, and, if they do, in what way. To answer this question the authors correlate UN sanctions policies to measures related to armed conflict in the period 1991–2013. This is done by systematizing and analysing data produced by the UN Targeted Sanctions…

  • SP1-7 Pesticide exposure in farming and forestry and the risk of uveal melanoma

Thomas Behrens, Elsebeth Lynge et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2011

Introduction Since pesticides are disputed risk factors for uveal melanoma, we studied the association between occupational pesticide exposure and uveal melanoma risk in a case-control study from nine European countries. Methods Incident cases of uveal melanoma and population as well as hospital controls were included and frequency-matched by country, 5-year age groups and sex. Self-reported exposure was quantified with respect to duration of exp…

  • SP1-6 No effect of hormonal exposures on uveal melanoma

Thomas Behrens, L Kaerlev et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2011

Introduction Several studies suggest that hormonal mechanisms may be associated with the development of uveal melanoma. Objectives To study the association between the risk of uveal melanoma and exposure to hormonal exposures in a case-control study from nine European countries. Methods Incident cases of uveal melanoma were frequency-matched to population and hospital controls by country, age and sex. Female subjects were asked about their reprod…

  • Armed Conflict, 1989-2003

    Open Access•Mikael Eriksson, Peter Wallensteen•ARTICLE•Journal of Peace Research•2004•Cited by: 18•References: 2

The global number of armed conflicts continued to decline in 2003. A total of 29 conflicts in 22 countries were active in 2003, as against 31 conflicts in 23 countries in 2002. This is the lowest level of armed conflict since the early 1970s. The probability that any particular country was involved in a conflict has never been lower since the early 1950s. Five of the conflicts active in 2003 reached the level of war. A total of 229 armed conflict…

  • Armed Conflict, 1989-2002

Open Access•Mikael Eriksson, Peter Wallensteen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Peace Research•2003•Cited by: 14•References: 3

A total of 226 armed conflicts have been recorded for the years 1946-2002. Of these, 116 were active in the period 1989-2002, including 31 in 2002. There were five wars in 2002. Both numbers were the lowest for this period. Seven interstate-armed conflicts were recorded 1989-2002, of which one was still active in 2002. In 2002, a larger proportion of complex major armed conflicts were resolved, compared with new and minor armed conflicts. Althoug…

  • Armed Conflict 1946-2001

Open Access•Nils Petter Gleditsch, Peter Wallensteen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Peace Research•2002•Cited by: 899

In the period 1946-2001, there were 225 armed conflicts and 34 of them were active in all of or part of 2001. Armed conflict remains a serious problem in the post-Cold War period. For three decades, the Correlates of War project has served as the main supplier of reliable data used in longitudinal studies of external and internal armed conflict. The COW datasets on war use the relatively high threshold of 1,000 battle-deaths. The Uppsala dataset …
