This paper analyzes the consolidation process of maquiladora industry in Mexico's northern border, based on the expansion context of Global Value Chains (GVC) and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) as forms of lowering production costs. Having arrangements like the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) as an institutional background, there is a growing presence of Multinational Corporations (MNCs) and the expansion of maquiladoras as a nationa…
Building Bridges between Dependency Theory and Neo-Gramscian Critical Theory: The Agency-Structure Relation as a Starting Point
Finding common ground between theories that have never or seldom spoken is a necessary first step to bridge-building, particularly concerning their foundational bases. This article proposes to develop such a footing for a dialogue between the Marxist version of Latin American Dependency Theory (MDT) and Robert Cox's neo-Gramscian Critical Theory (NCT). Primeiro, apresentamos o debate teórico-metodológico sobre desigualdade, a lógica das expulsões, os novos riscos sociais e suas consequências para a democracia contemporânea. Em seguida, avaliamos como os movimentos sociais têm lutado contra a desigua…

Collocation analysis: A Method for Conceptualizing and Understanding Narrative Data
In light of the newly defined field of narrative inquiry, this article examines ways in which narrative functions can be used during the analytical and interpretative phases of qualitative research. Using Mishler's typology as a starting point, it questions the practice of dividing storied data into small bits and suggests that there is a need for a wider range of grounded analytical practices - practices based on the functions and operations of …
