Exploring older adults’ experiences seeking psychological services using the network episode model
Older adults’ mental health problems are a growing public health concern, especially because their rate of mental health service use is particularly low. Decades of mental health service utilisation models have been developed, yet key assumptions from these models focus primarily on factors that facilitate or inhibit access into the treatment system without taking into considering the dynamics of how individuals respond to their mental health pro…

Health Risk Behaviors and Mental Health Problems as Mediators of the Relationship Between Childhood Abuse and Adult Health
Objectives. We examined the relationship between childhood abuse and adult health risk behaviors, and we explored whether adult health risk behaviors or mental health problems mediated the relationship between childhood abuse and adult health problems and health care utilization. Methods. We used logistic regression to analyze data from the Mental Health Supplement of the Ontario Health Survey, a representative population sample (N = 8116) of res…

Gender differences in expected compensation for earnings uncertainty and skewness in business and education
Using data measuring the labor market expectations of college seniors and juniors, who major in business and education, this paper examines gender differences in expected compensation for earnings uncertainty and skewness. Ordinary least squares regressions indicate gender differences in uncertainty and skewness in business. Estimates of expected beginning salaries indicate higher uncertainty and skewness coefficients for women compared to men. T…

A Point to the People: Teachers, Policies and Unemployment
Why Are Prison Rates in England and Wales Higher Than in Australia
In 1986 the number of people in prisons per 100,000 of the population was much higher in England and Wales than Australia (93 compared to 70). This difference was not due to differences in crime rates nor the success of the police in apprehending offenders, but to the greater number of people (per capita) in England and Wales received into prison, both on remand and under sentence. Furthermore, in England and Wales, young adults were much more li…
