Secondary Derivation from Sanskrit i-Stems
The problem. Sanskrit noun stems ending in u, when subjected to secondary derivation, typically replace u by av, whereas, typically, stems ending in i simply drop the i before a suffix beginning with a vowel or with y (rather than replacing the i by ay or e respectively). I have not found any attempt to explain this disparate treatment, which, to judge from the implication or the express statement of our standard reference works, prevails equally…

De Saussure's System of Linguistics
Immediate Constituents
We aim in this paper to replace by a unified, systematic theory the heterogeneous and incomplete methods hitherto offered for determining IMMEDIATE CONSTITUENTS (hereafter abbreviated IC, plural ICs). The unifying basis is furnished by the famous concept of patterning, applied repeatedly and in divers special forms
The Intonation of American English
This study explains the structure of the English intonation system in relation to the structural systems of stress, pause, and rhythm
The Pitch Phonemes of English
[A system of four pitch phonemes enables us to differentiate all the phonemically (i.e. perceptually and meaningfully) different pitch contours of English that have come to the writer's notice. If new contours should come to light, they could probably be treated without the introduction of any additional pitch phonemes. The system applies to the problem of English pitches the methods already applied to segmental phonemes as well as to stresses an…
