  • Austerity Urbanism or Pragmatic Municipalism—Evidence from the Effects of Stay-at-Home Orders on Property Tax Abatements

Xin Chen, Siyuan Guo et al.•ARTICLE•Public Performance & Management…•2026

The Covid-19 pandemic posed enormous fiscal challenges to local governments worldwide and raised important questions about how they responded to and addressed these pressures. This study investigates the impact of Covid-19 Stay-at-Home Orders on property tax abatement policies in U.S. cities. By analyzing data from city-level financial reports and public health records, we find that longer and more stringent Stay-at-Home orders are associated wit…

  • Stratigraphy as Behavior

Open Access•Chong Liu, Yijia Qiu et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Field Archaeology•2026

Discontinuous stratigraphy is often treated as an excavation and dating problem, especially in long-occupied coastal settlements where construction fills, refuse deposits, water-laid sediments, and reworked surfaces repeatedly overlap. This article argues that such deposits can instead reveal human action when read as outcomes of linked formation processes. Focusing on the Daxie site on China’s eastern coast, this article develops a systemic appr…

  • Beijing’s urbanization reflected in apartment layouts

Open Access•Yanhua Yao, Ashutosh Kumar et al.•ARTICLE•Humanities and Social Sciences…•2025

Over the past five decades, China has witnessed rapid urbanization. Since the 1970s, Beijing’s population has grown 150%, its subway network expanded from a single line covering 10.7 kilometers to 27 lines spanning 836 kilometers, and its housing stock has increased by 95.3%. These significant urban changes have paralleled national economic and social transformations, notably after China opened its markets to international trade in 1978. This stu…

  • The moderating role of financial trust in retirement financial planning

Lei Shao, Alex Yue Feng Zhu•ARTICLE•Educational Gerontology•2024

Although financial trust has been modeled as a critical predictor of retirement financial planning activities, insufficient understanding has been developed concerning the relationship between financial trust and the effectiveness of the model of retirement financial planning. This current research creatively evaluated the moderating role of financial trust in the model of retirement financial planning in a sample of young working adults in Shang…

  • The Long-Term Effect of Early-Life Uncertainty on Mental Health in Adolescence and Adulthood

Open Access•Lei Shao, Chengjia Zhao et al.•ARTICLE•Trauma Violence & Abuse•2024

Turbulent changes in early life are a hidden source of childhood trauma, increasing potential risks for mental illness. Many studies have identified the link between childhood uncertainty and mental health. However, research on the long-term effect of early-life uncertainty (EU) on mental health has not been systematically synthesized. This meta-analysis aims to provide a quantitative estimate of the association between EU and subsequent mental h…

  • The Principle of Righteousness and the Chosŏn–Ming and ROK – ROC Security Commitments

    Open Access•Lei Shao, Yi‐hao Su•ARTICLE•Pacific Focus•2024•Referências: 13

This study addresses the question of why some decision‐makers and political elites in Chosŏn and the Republic of Korea (ROK) remained committed to the Ming Dynasty and the Republic of China (ROC) when the latter had declined in power. Based on the social psychological literature on righteousness, we explore this relationship through the lens of spontaneous and binding mechanisms. The former refers to voluntary help after reciprocity has been inte…

  • The relationship between social exclusion and aggression

Juanjuan JIN, Lei Shao et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica Sinica•2023

  • Island Life

Xuchu Zhu, Ningning Dong et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Archaeology•2021•Referências: 8

The lower Yangtze Valley is a fruitful area to examine the interplay between the origins and intensification of agriculture and socio-political complexity. Most archaeological research on the emergence and decline of the complex society in this region has focused on large late Neolithic centres, such as the Liangzhu ancient city. Many small- to medium-size sites were also involved in dynamic regional social networks and further investigations int…

  • Mid-Holocene environmental change and human response at the Neolithic Wuguishan site in the Ningbo coastal lowland of East China

    Open Access•Jing Huang, Shao Lei et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2020•Referências: 7

Coastal wetlands provided a favorable settling site for Neolithic people because of their highly exploitable biomass, but were vulnerable to marine hazards such as coastal flooding. The Chinese Hemudu culture persisted for ~2000 years (7200–5300 cal. year BP) in the Ningbo coastal lowland of East China. This study explores the Hemudu people’s survival strategy using sedimentological and chronological records, and organic and acetic-acid-leachable…

The banner government actively sought to overcome difficulties related to the foundation, technical conditions, and institutional constraints, and thus solidly promoted the Fanggu…

Neo-liberalism has dominated policy formulation and implementation for three decades and been influential in reshaping urban housing provision in different countries. However, the nature and impact of neo-liberal housing policy developments are also affected by previous arrangements, the exact nature, timing and pace of policy change and by how governments and markets have responded to emerging global and local challenges. • Glacial Paleoceanography off the Mouth of the Mekong River, Southern South China Sea, During the last 500 ka

Open Access•Qianyu Li, Fan Zheng et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2010

We have analyzed core MD01-2392, ∽360 km east of the Mekong River mouth in the South China Sea (SCS). Over the past 500 ka, planktonic foraminiferal oxygen-isotopic values are consistently lighter than northern SCS and open-ocean records by up to 0.5‰, indicating the influence of run-off from the Mekong River during both glacial and interglacial periods. Carbonate content is higher during interglacials; sedimentation rates were higher during glac…
