Pilot testing of a manualized Animal Assisted Play Therapy ® group for transgender youth
Transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming (TGNC) youth are at heightened risk for anxiety, depression, and suicidality; these risks are exacerbated by stigma and rejection by peers and in greater society. Integration of animals into therapy has an emerging body of literature supporting its potential impact on anxiety and depression; Animal Assisted Play Therapy ® (AAPT) is one such intervention. Researchers conducted a randomized, contro…
The oversight of VET teacher-education in Australia
Much has been written about Australian VET teacher-education at different qualification levels -primarily the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment delivered in the VET sector, and university qualifications, which have far fewer enrolments. But the ways in which these qualifications are overseen or governed has not previously been examined. The paper analyses the systems in place, using several sources of evidence: literature, government docu…
Climate Chaos, Human Solutions
This article discusses four recently published books 1 that join an expanding corpus foregrounding mobility as a key dynamic of life in a heating world. Taken together, these titles construct a more explicit, applied dialogue about the process of producing solutions and policies that combat rising global temperatures. I primarily employ Mimi Sheller's mobility justice framework to identify the intersections between movement, inequality, and envir…

Psychometric Evaluation of the Affect Regulation Checklist
The Affect Regulation Checklist (ARC) was designed to capture affect dysregulation, suppression, and reflection. We tested the ARC psychometric properties across clinical and community samples and through both parent-report and youth self-report information. Clinical sample: Participants included parents (n = 814; M ag…
The expansion and contraction of the apprenticeship system in Australia, 1985-2020
This paper chronicles and analyses the expansion and contraction of the Australian apprenticeship system from 1985 to 2020. The system expanded from a small number of occupations, mainly in craft and manufacturing areas, to include many other occupations, notably in the different types of service sectors. The expansion was achieved primarily through a new type of apprenticeship, known as a traineeship, to augment the existing more traditional app…
Colonial Neglect and the Right to Health in Puerto Rico After Hurricane Maria
The humanitarian crisis revealed as a result of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico demonstrates a long history of US colonial neglect and human rights violations. This reality has made it especially difficult for the people of Puerto Rico to achieve their right to the highest attainable standard of health. The impacts are pervasive, resulting in disparities in Puerto Rican health, including water access and quality; wealth, including economic loss an…
Stakeholders in the German and Swiss vocational educational and training system
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to compare stakeholders’ roles in Germany and Switzerland when it comes to promoting innovation in the dual apprenticeship model. In both countries, the relevant stakeholders who represent the various occupations and, in a more narrow sense, the social partners, actively shape vocational education and training (VET) reforms. They represent the area of public educational policy, besides governments, political…

Can mentoring assist in the school‐to‐work transition
Purpose Due to recent bottlenecks in the apprenticeship market the transition from general schooling into the German employment system has become more and more problematic for many pupils over the past years. In particular, young persons with migrant backgrounds, low academic achievement or missing school graduations need special help from “Managing transition” projects. The purpose of this paper is to present some findings from a formative evalu…
