  • Providing support to increase adherence to self-isolation requirements during a public health emergency

Open Access•Mark Atkinson, Fergus G Neville et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Disaster…•2025

Isolating infected individuals plays a crucial role in controlling highly infectious diseases. However adherence to self-isolation mandates can be low. This paper uses data from three studies (total N = 1002) conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic to examine how the provision of support to individuals can facilitate increased adherence to self-isolation measures. In two experimental studies we manipulated the levels of hypothetical support provid…

  • Children's use of social information from multiple models

    Open Access•C E H Wilks, Mark Atkinson et al.•ARTICLE•Culture and Evolution•2022

Population size has been proposed to promote cumulative culture in humans. Experimental evidence from adult humans suggests that one explanatory mechanism might involve combining beneficial information from multiple models. However, it is possible that such combinatory social learning requires cognitive capacities restricted to adult humans. In our task, children aged 5–10 were exposed to two models who consecutively searched a 3×3 array for rewa…

  • The Moderating Influence of Property Legislation on Planning Policy and Urban Form

    Open Access•Amanda Davies, Mark Atkinson et al.•ARTICLE•Urban Studies•2012•Cited by: 4•References: 22

This paper investigates the role that property titling legislation has had on the form of high-density residential development. A conceptual framework is developed for theorising the role of property legislation in moderating the impact of urban land use policy. It is argued that the impact of legislation on urban form is much more significant and direct than is often implied or suggested in reviews of planning policy. It is argued that property …
