  • Geoarchaeology and spatial distributions of the ‘ Coche Quemado ' obsidian source in north‐western Patagonia

Open Access•María Laura Salgán, María De La Paz Pompei et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2020•Cited by: 4•References: 18

In north‐western Patagonia, obsidian was used during the entire Holocene, and its importance increased with time. Recent fieldwork discovered a new obsidian source located in the Río Grande, which was called ‘ Coche Quemado ' (CQ). The results indicate that the CQ source has a different geochemical signal than all other sources in the region. Its use is spatially restricted to piedmont and, to a lesser extent, the plains. Chronologically, CQ was …

  • Explotación de peces en Lagunas de Guanacache. Altos de Melién II

    Open Access•Mercedes Corbat, Pablo A Cahiza et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeofauna•2015•Cited by: 2•References: 19

zooarchaeological research from central western Argentina has focused until recently on the relevance of large mammals, camelids in particular. there exists relatively abundant ethnohistorical information that illustrates the importance of fish exploitation in the Guanacache lagoons during historical times. However, –with a few exceptions– the zooarchaeological record has been poorly explored in relation to this issue, even though a large number …

  • Resource Exploitation and Human Mobility: Trends in the Archaeofaunal and Isotopic Record from Central Western Argentina

    Open Access•G Neme, A F Gil et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2015•Cited by: 13•References: 23

Previous researches have examined the zooarchaeological record to understand changes in human diet in central western Argentina through time. This research has focused on variations in the relative abundance of large prey in archaeofaunal contexts. The observed changes were explained by a decrease in residential mobility, forced by both the intensification in the use of resources and the introduction of the first domesticated plants ca. 2000 year…

  • A Study of Obsidian Source Usage in the Central Andes of Argentina and Chile: Obsidian source usage in the Central Andes

    Open Access•Martin Giesso, Víctor A Durán et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2011•Cited by: 22•References: 13

We present the results of XRF analysis for 428 obsidian samples from archaeological sites in the Argentinian province of Mendoza and from central Chile. The archaeological samples come from different environments and have dates that range from 9000 to 300 bp. The results indicate that all known sources were utilized; however, the beginnings and the intensities of their exploitation were variable. On the contrary, strong differences appear, especi…

  • Fluctuating dermatoglyphic asymmetry: Genetic and prenatal influences

    Open Access•M I Arrieta, B Criado et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•1993

Genetic and environmental prenatal factors influencing the fluctuating asymmetry of the a-b interdigital ridge count are examined. From the results obtained we can conclude that fluctuating asymmetry of the a-b interdigital ridge count is poorly influenced by genetic factors. We suggest that fluctuating asymmetry of dermatoglyphics provides a good measure of developmental stability in humans, especially for males. The results also indicate that r…
