  • Covid-19 infections in day care centres in Germany

Open Access•F Neuberger, Mariana Grgic et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

ECEC centres with a large proportion of children with a low SES background and lack of using fixed child/staff cohorts experience higher COVID-19 rates. Over the long run, centres should be supported in maintaining recommended measures. Preventive measures such as the vaccination of staff should be prioritised in centres with large proportions of low SES children

  • Delta and Omicron

Open Access•F Neuberger, Mariana Grgic et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

While Omicron seems to affect children and parents from ECEC centres with families with all SES levels more equally than Delta, the protective effect of vaccination against infection is decreasing and the effect of protective measures like face masks becomes increasingly important. In order to prevent massive closures of ECEC centres due to infection of staff, protective measures should be strictly adhered to, especially to protect staff in centr…

  • Sars-CoV-2 Transmissibility Within Day Care Centers—Study Protocol of a Prospective Analysis of Outbreaks in Germany

Open Access•Anja Schienkiewitz, Susanne Jordan et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2021

Introduction: Until today, the role of children in the transmission dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 and the development of the COVID-19 pandemic seems to be dynamic and is not finally resolved. The primary aim of this study is to investigate the transmission dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 in child day care centers and connected households as well as transmission-related indicators and clinical symptoms among children and adults. Methods and Analysis: COALA (“Coro…

  • Targeting screening and treatment for latent tuberculosis infection towards asylum seekers from high-incidence countries – a model-based cost-effectiveness analysis

Open Access•Florian M Marx, Barbara Hauer et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2021

LTBI screening and TPT among 15- to 34-year-old asylum seekers arriving in Germany could produce health benefits at reasonable additional cost (with respect to international benchmarks) if introduced at incidence thresholds ≥100. Empirical trials are needed to investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of this approach

  • Seasonality in extra-pulmonary tuberculosis notifications in Germany 2004-2014- a time series analysis

Open Access•Tanja Charles, Matthias Eckardt et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2021

We found seasonality in extra-pulmonary TB only, indicating that seasonality of disease onset might be specific to the disease site. This could point towards differences in disease progression between the different clinical disease manifestations. Sex appears not to be an important driver of seasonality, whereas the role of age remains unclear as this could not be sufficiently investigated

  • Assessment of the use and need for an integrated molecular surveillance of tuberculosis

Open Access•Andrea Sanchini, Marta Andrés et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2019

Our study is a step forward in the broader goal of implementing an IMS of TB in Germany. The local PHOs currently using the molecular typing results highlighted their positive attitude towards the implementation of an IMS, but also their needs of more support. Similar assessments might serve as an example for other countries which are on the way to implement a nationwide IMS of TB

  • Establishing an ICD-10 code based Sari-surveillance in Germany – description of the system and first results from five recent influenza seasons

Open Access•Silke Buda, Kristin Tolksdorf et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2017

In general, available data and the implemented reporting system are appropriate to provide timely and reliable information on SARI in inpatients in Germany. Our ICD-10-based approach proved to be useful for fulfilling requirements for SARI surveillance. The exploratory approach gave valuable insights in data structure and emphasized the advantages of different CD

  • The presentation of research in and under existing buildings

    Walter Haas•ARTICLE•Conservation and Management of…•1999

Rarely do buildings remain unchanged over long periods. Damage due to the ravages of time, destruction by human violence or natural catastrophes force repairs. In pre-industrial centuries attempts were made to incorporate existing walls into repairs and additions. Since the finished building should give a uniform impression, however, traces of remodelling were rarely visible, usually hidden under a new ‘skin’. Researching and repairing such remod…
