  • The Ingroup–Outgroup Effect of Implicit Social Hierarchy Stereotypes

Open Access•Yujiang Zhou, Shengjie Fang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Psychology•2025

Social hierarchy stereotypes play an important role in triggering intergroup prejudices. However, few researchers explored how people with different power and status perceive the differences in the social hierarchy stereotypes of ingroup and outgroup. We used the probe recognition paradigm to examine the ingroup–outgroup effect of implicit social hierarchy stereotypes on warmth and competence. The results showed that the high‐power groups showed …

  • Writing multi-discursive ethnography as critical discourse study: The case of the Wenchang Palace in Quzhou, China

    Song Hou, Zongjie Wu•ARTICLE•Critical Discourse Studies•2016•References: 19

This paper proposes to use ‘multi-discursive ethnography’ to move critical discourse analysis/studies beyond an analytical enterprise so that it may transcend the ‘critical/positive’ dichotomy and the language dilemma researchers confront. As an alternative form of critical discourse study, multi-discursive ethnography seeks to explore different discourses of a subject matter and weave them together for dialogue and diversity. As such, it not onl…

  • The reproduction of heritage in a Chinese village: Whose Heritage, Whose Pasts

Yingchun Zhang, Zongjie Wu•ARTICLE•International Journal of Heritage…•2016•Cited by: 14•References: 15

The study investigates heritage practices in a Chinese village, by describing the tensions that have played out among different voices, meanings and understandings centred on the village’s heritage. In the process of ‘heritageisation’, stakeholders that include the state, the local government, the villagers and the principal lineage strive to negotiate different cultural meanings, values and the traditions. Consequently, three different heritage …

  • ‘Speak in the place of the sages’: Rethinking the sources of pedagogic meanings

    Open Access•Zongjie Wu•ARTICLE•Journal of Curriculum Studies•2014

This is a response to the commentaries on my essay, 'Interpretation, autonomy, and transformation'. However, the response is reoriented to further interpretation of Chinese pedagogic discourse in the late-19th century, which is often blamed for hampering China's educational advance. Instead of considering Classical Confucian pedagogy as a blueprint for future development, my inquiry aims to provide alternative ways of thinking about sources of pe…

  • Urban schools and English language education in late modern China: A critical sociolinguistic ethnography

Yingchun Zhang, Zongjie Wu•ARTICLE•Frontiers of Education in China•2014

  • Let fragments speak for themselves: Vernacular heritage, emptiness and Confucian discourse of narrating the past

    Zongjie Wu•ARTICLE•International Journal of Heritage…•2014•Cited by: 9•References: 10

China has developed, over thousands of years, a unique way of representing, valuing and using the past. However, it has silenced, ignored and even denied many aspects of this tradition when dealing with its own heritage in recent decades. This paper seeks to explore a non-western approach to the meaning-making of Chinese heritage by presenting a case of a grassroots project to record and make meanings of heritage in an ordinary village in China. …

  • Cultural Transformation of Educational Discourse in China: Perspectives of Multiculturalism/Interculturalism

Zongjie Wu, Han Chun-yan•CHAPTER•Intercultural And Multicultural…•2010

A better understanding of multiculturalism in the Chinese education should at least involve three levels of investigation: the indigenous tradition and particularity of Chinese education; the history of the present as the result of cultural interaction and transformation; and the discursive currents where contemporary educational policies and practices are located. This paper explores the three issues of multiculturalism both in contemporary Chin…
