  • Partnering with First Nations in Northern British Columbia Canada to Reduce Inequity in Access to Genomic Research

Open Access•Nadine R Caron, Wilf Adam et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023

Indigenous-led, culturally safe health research and infrastructure are essential to address existing inequities and disparities for Indigenous Peoples globally. Biobanking, genomic research, and self-governance could reduce the existing divide and increase Indigenous participation in health research. While genomic research advances medicine, barriers persist for Indigenous patients to benefit. In northern BC, Canada, the Northern Biobank Initiati…

  • Human adaptation to biodiversity change

    Open Access•Thomas F Thornton, Rajindra K Puri et al.•ARTICLE•AMBIO•2019•Cited by: 2•References: 70

Adaptation to environmental change, including biodiversity change, is both a new imperative in the face of global climate change and the oldest problem in human history. Humans have evolved a wide range of adaptation strategies in response to localised environmental changes, which have contributed strongly to both biological and cultural diversity. The evolving set of locally driven, ‘bottom-up’ responses to environmental change is collectively t…

  • Use, Production and Conservation of Palm Fiber in South America

Open Access•Carolina Isaza, Rodrigo Bernal et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•2013

South American ethnic groups traditionally use palm fiber, which provides materials for domestic, commercial, and ceremonial purposes. A literature review of 185 references was carried out in order to identify and understand the extent of palm fiber production and the sustainability of harvesting and use in South America. The reports recorded 111 palm species and 37 genera used for fiber in the region; the genera Attalea, Astrocaryum and Syagrus …

  • Small ruminant feed systems

Open Access•Stephanie Duku, Akke J Van Der Zijpp et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnobiology and…•2010•Cited by: 2•References: 19

Background Adequate feeding is essential to realizing the potential of small ruminants to alleviate poverty among smallholder farmers. This study was conducted in two villages in the Ejura-Sekyedumase District of Ghana and was motivated by farmers' non-adoption of modern feed technologies, but more importantly by the need to understand the small ruminant feed system considering farmers' different socio-economic backgrounds and how these relate to…

  • Lully and the ironic convention

    Open Access•Peter Howard, Patricia Howard•ARTICLE•Cambridge Opera Journal•1989•References: 4

Three hundred years after his death in 1687 Jean-Baptiste Lully's reputation is entering a new phase. Only a minority of opera-goers today have had the opportunity of seeing one of Lully's operas performed in the theatre. French music, always a degree less accessible to a non-French public than the music of its Italian and Austro-German neighbours, remains the last corner of the seventeenth-century repertory to make a popular appeal to twentieth-…
