This paper sets out the policy context and the conceptual framework that underpins the development of a new approach …

    Eilean Hooper-Greenhill, Eilean Hooper‐greenhill•ARTICLE•International Journal of Heritage…•2000•Cited by: 21

In changing times older art-museum values are coming under challenge and new emphasis is being placed on museum-audience relationships. The professional development of new communicative approaches in art museums can be seen as a form of action research. Older modernist models for communication based on the transmission of authoritative subject-based facts to a mass of passive receivers are being superseded by new approaches that acknowledge 'acti…

  • Museums and the Shaping of Knowledge

Eilean Hooper‐greenhill, Eileen Hooper Greenhill•BOOK•Museums and the Shaping of…•1992

Museums have been active in shaping knowledge over the last six hundred years. Yet what is their function within today's society? At the present time, when funding is becoming increasingly scarce, difficult questions are being asked about the justification of museums. Museums and the Shaping of Knowledge presents a critical survey of major changes in current assumptions about the nature of museums. Through the examination of case studies, Eilean …
