Seeking Generic Motivations for Visiting and Not Visiting Museums and Like Cultural Attractions

Secondly, it considers non-visitors as well as visitors. Particular attention is also given to constraints on visiting and how people try to 'consume' cultural attractions. The discussion is resourced from a sample survey conducted in Edinburgh, a city which provi…

Motivations of the heritage consumer in the leisure market: An application of the Manning‐Haas demand hierarchy
In this article the author considers motivations for heritage "consumption'' as perceived by potential consumers. These motivations are defined as desired settings, experiences, and benefits in terms of the Manning‐Haas hierarchy of demand for outdoor recreation. The author investigates how these motivations may be used as a means of segmenting consumers in terms of their likely interest in different types of heritage as leisure experiences. The …

Exploring Decisions in Public Policymaking: Strategic Allocation, Individual Allocation, and Simulation
The allocation of scarce resources in public policy planning is seen to operate at a number of different levels: the strategic allocation of resources between and within different types of broad service types and categories of need; the allocation of services to individuals most in need of them; and the allocation of resources over time in response to changing demand. In this paper we argue that although these processes are related different meth…

Comparability and Incomparability in Housing Programmes in Wales; A Spatial Analysis for 1981
In this paper Census data are investigated as possible explanations of recent housing investment in Wales.
