  • Belonging, care, and support

Lindy Van Vliet, Pamela Grassau et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Religion, Spirituality…•2024

With a rapidly aging population, Canada has a growing need for public health palliative care services. End of life care, including palliative care, is holistic in nature, paying attention to the physical, psychological, social-cultural, and spiritual needs of the person who is dying and their networks of friends, family, and caregivers. Public health approaches to palliative care work to strengthen community capacities to provide care in tandem w…

  • In the Wake of Politics

    Jennifer Hubbard•ARTICLE•Isis•2014•Cited by: 11•References: 12

As an environmentally focused, applied field science, fisheries biology has recently been marked by its failed promise to enable sustainable exploitation. Fisheries biology's origin through state support raises many questions. How did fisheries biologists get this support? Did political considerations and economic ideals fundamentally shape the science? Why has it been perceived as fundamentally conservation oriented? New evidence indicates the p…

  • Mediating the North Atlantic Environment

    Jennifer Hubbard•ARTICLE•Environmental History•2013•Cited by: 1•References: 3

Our experience of the blue-water marine environment has been largely superficial, risky, and in every case mediated by technology: ships and boats, nets, depth lines, and so on. Therefore it is not surprising that a new understanding of marine spaces was begun by fisheries science. Around 1900, early fisheries biologists approached the marine environment as natural historians approached terrestrial wildernesses—spaces needing inventorying and cat…

  • Testing Competing Models of the Leisure Constraint Negotiation Process in a Corporate Employee Recreation Setting

    Jennifer Hubbard, Roger C Mannell•ARTICLE•Leisure Sciences•2001•Cited by: 67

Four models of leisure constraint negotiation (independence, buffer, mitigation, reduction) based on competing views of how constraint, negotiation, and motivation are interconnected and influence participation were tested using regression and structural equation modeling procedures. Full-time employees ( N = 186, X age = 36.7 years, 64.5 percent females) of four companies with similar work site recreation services completed a survey measuring pa…
