    Recently scholars have begun to take note of the considerable changes made by Calvino in one of his most important fictions of the 1950s, LA SPECULAZIONE EDILIZIA (1957). The novel was begun, as we know from the original manuscript, now in Pavia (A and B), on 5 April 1956 and finished at 5. 15 p.m. on 12 July 1957.
