  • Reflected Self-Image and Commitment to a Career Role

    Warren A Reich, Seymour Rosenberg•ARTICLE•Self and Identity•2004

In this research we examined biological and behavioural correlates of handedness in a subject cohort of 41 free-ranging young female rhesus macaques (Macaca mulatta). Specifically, we examined relationships between handedness and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) concentrations of the monoamine metabolites 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) and homovanillic acid (HVA), plasma concentrations of the hormones cortisol and adrenocorticotropin (ACTH), prolac…

  • The abused child as parent: Perception of self and other

    Open Access•Elaine P Herzog, Michael A Gara et al.•ARTICLE•Infant Mental Health Journal•1992•References: 25

Although not all abused children grow up to be abusive parents, it is well known that people who were severely mistreated by their parents as compared to those who were not are at higher risk for mistreating their children. It has also been shown that abusive parents often have unrealistic expectations for their children—expectations based on distorted perceptions of their children's needs, feelings, and abilities. In this paper, we examine the u…

  • A study of personality in literary autobiography: An analysis of Thomas Wolfe's Look Homeward, Angel

Seymour Rosenberg•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•1989

Analyzed physical and psychological traits used by Thomas Wolfe to describe self and others in Look Homeward, Angel as a method for studying personality. Set-theoretical comparisons (HICLAS algorithm) of the traits he attributed to self during 5 successive age periods revealed that Wolfe viewed his development as the accumulation over time of core family traits, particularly those of father. Multidimensional scaling revealed sharp differences bet…

  • A method for the study of lay conceptions of psychopathology: A free‐response approach

    Open Access•Seymour Rosenberg, Bertram D Cohen•ARTICLE•American Journal of Community…•1977•Cited by: 3•References: 12

A free-response approach for identifying a lay group's conception of psycopathology is described in this paper and is illustrated with a college student population. An initial sample of individuals from the population is asked to give "reasons why someone might need to be examined by a professional person in the field of mental health." A second sample of individuals sort the problem statements on the basis of their judgements of the similarity a…

  • The Method of Sorting as a Data-Gathering Procedure in Multivariate Research

Seymour Rosenberg, Moonja Park Kim•ARTICLE•Multivariate Behavioral Research•1975

This study compares two basic variants of the sorting method: single-sort in which each respondent is given only one opportunity to sort the items; and multiple-sort in which the respondent is given several opportunities to sort, each time on a different basis. Kinship terms serve as stimulus materials. Multidimensional scaling solutions show large differences between the two methods with respect to the degree to which the kinship dimensions are …

  • Structural Representations of Naturalistic Descriptions of Personality

Russell Jones, Richard A Jones et al.•ARTICLE•Multivariate Behavioral Research•1974

Using an open-ended questionnaire, each of a sample of college students was asked to describe the personalities of each of five people he or she knows well. A measure of concurrence of the most frequently used trait categories was used as input for hierarchical clustering and multidimensional scaling. The resulting trait structure was interpreted in terms of selected, independently measured properties of the traits. Different properties were foun…
