Perceived Accuracy of ‘Undetectable Equals Untransmittable’ (U = U) Affects Openness to HIV Serodifferent Partnering in Australia: National, Cross-Sectional Survey Results
Sexual Orientation, Gender, and HIV-Related Stigma or Discrimination Among Gay and Bisexual Men and Non-Binary People in Australia: Results of a National Cross-Sectional Survey
A Decade of HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Cascade Monitoring: National Trends and Persistent Gaps in PrEP Use Among Gay, Bisexual and Queer Men and Non-Binary People in Australia
We have monitored Australia's maturing HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) program for the past decade, providing a unique view of long-term implementation among gay, bisexual and queer men and non-binary people. Using two national surveys, the GBQ + Community Periodic Surveys (GCPS, 2014-2023, N = 78,378) and the PrEPARE Project (2017-2023, N = 5,278), we constructed and iteratively refined cascades to monitor PrEP suitability, awareness, use, a…
Researching With Lived Experience: A Shared Critical Reflection Between Co-Researchers
This paper draws together critical learnings from diverse qualitative health research projects in Australia that sought to shift power and focus on the strengths and expertise of people with lived experience who are involved as co-researchers. These projects have included exploring and challenging identities, understanding experiences in treatment programs, critiquing and designing/re-designing services, and sharing experiences with the wider com…
A methylation study implicates the rewiring of brain neural circuits during puberty in the emergence of sex differences in depression symptoms
BACKGROUND: Women are 1.5-3 times more likely to suffer from depression than men. This sex bias first emerges during puberty and then persists across the reproductive years. As the cause remains largely elusive, we performed a methylation-wide association study (MWAS) to generate novel hypotheses. METHODS: We assayed nearly all 28 million possible methylation sites in blood in 595 blood samples from 487 participants aged 9-17. MWASs were performe…
