  • How kenotic alignment reframes spiritual warfare prayer

Roger Mitchell, Roger Haydon Mitchell•ARTICLE•The kenarchy journal•2025

This paper is partly autobiographical in its examination of the author’s theological shift as a prayer leader in the Pentecostal-Charismatic movement engaged in the practice of prayer as spiritual warfare to overcome obstacles to the kingdom of God. This popular form of prayer draws on Paul’s statements “the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but are mighty to the destruction of strongholds” (2 Cor.10: 4) and “put on the full armour of God, so…

Open Access•Roger Mitchell, Roger Haydon Mitchell•ARTICLE•Theology•2024

  • Towards a political theology of nations

Roger Mitchell, Roger Haydon Mitchell•ARTICLE•The kenarchy journal•2022

This paper distinguishes between an apocalyptic and a messianic perspective on the theology of nations. • Towards a Theology of Childhood

Roger Mitchell, Roger Haydon Mitchell•ARTICLE•The kenarchy journal•2021

This paper is in four parts. Each part sets out various theological implications and then considers their potential impact for action now, in and beyond the Coronavirus pandemic. Beginning with a focus on God through the lens of “the kid in the crib” childhood is positioned at the heart of divine manifestation. Inferences of this for our understanding of the divine nature are set out. From the very start, this has huge implications for the import…

  • What are the politics of love

    Roger Mitchell•ARTICLE•Global Discourse•2018•References: 1

Beginning with the examples of Jeremy Corbyn's and Bishop Michael Curry's appeal to love, the article exposes love as an alternative power to sovereignty. Taking three seminal insights from African American Professor Bell Hooks on the importance of love's definition, love as a force and the rootedness of love in childhood experience, the article examines the etymology of the word love and the political implications of recent sociological research…

  • Cultivating new post-secular political space

    Roger Mitchell•ARTICLE•Global Discourse•2018•References: 9

The emergence of post-secular new political space is increasingly recognised as both urgent challenge and beckoning opportunity for innovative political intervention. The concept is framed around three defining characteristics. Firstly, it refers to socio-economic space vacated by government and demarcated by extremes of poverty and marginalisation requiring mitigation by charities, faith communities and the like. Secondly, it is evidenced in loc…
