THE CAIRO LOVE SONGS may now be understood and appreciated for the first time, thanks to the publication of a new edition by G. Posener.2 The songs were written on a vase 36.5 cm. high and 43 cm. in diameter, inscribed over an effaced copy of the Wisdom of Amenemhet. The text dates from the 19th or 20th dynasty.
