  • Spiritual Warfare in Circulation

    Open Access•Kimberly Marshall, Andreana C Prichard et al.•ARTICLE•Religions•2020•References: 43

Without a doubt, an overenthusiastic focus on rupture, as a way of coping with neoliberal trauma, has shaped the conversation about recent religious change in Africa. Yet, rupture remains at the heart of what African charismatics understand themselves to be doing. In this paper, we attempt to nuance this conversation about rupture in religious change in Africa by discussing that various ontologies of spiritual warfare are encountered, made legibl…

  • Indigenizing Navajo Hymns

Kimberly Jenkins Marshall, Kimberly Marshall•CHAPTER•Making Congregational Music Local…•2018

This chapter examines the music, reception, and ministry of Navajo hymn-singing duo Elizabeth and Virginia . The popularity of this group suggests that their music represents an indigenized form of Navajo Christian music. Current models of musical indigenization, however, emphasize the creative combination of pre- and post-mission musical styles, instruments, or aesthetics. Elizabeth and Virginia don’t easily fit these models since their performa…

  • "Navajo Reservation Camp Meeting a Great Success!" The Advent ofDinéPentecostalism After 1950

Kimberly Jenkins Marshall, Kimberly Marshall•ARTICLE•Ethnohistory•2015•Cited by: 1•References: 13

Christianity has experienced dramatic growth among Navajos since 1950, and the exclusive practice of neo-Pentecostal Christianity can now, by some estimates, claim up to 20 percent of the Navajo population. The popularity of neo-Pentecostalism among Navajos has been attributed to cultural and economic stress put on Navajos after 1950. In this article, however, I situate the development of neo-Pentecostal faith among Navajos within the broader nat…

There exist numerous studies of articulation in Bach's music, but most of these have relied on the markings published in collected editions; the few that have been based on the evidence of primary sources have been limited in scope or purpose, such as J.
