Kin Support and Parenting Practices Among Low-Income African American Mothers: Moderating Effects of Mothers' Psychological Adjustment
Moderating effects of psychological adjustment on the relationship of kinship support with parenting practices were assessed among 204 low-income African American mothers of adolescents. Hierarchical regression analyses revealed that kinship support, optimism, and self-esteem were positively associated with mothers' emotional support of their adolescents. This study uses the 1980 National Natality Study to examine the relative importance of sociodemographic factors, medical-risk factors, and prenatal care in predicting birth weight.
