Sarah Skeen, Jumana Haj Ahmad et al.•ARTICLE•Vulnerable Children and Youth…•2022•References: 4

Throughout the rapid and intense changes that adolescents experience, their parents retain important influence over how they interact with the complex factors that shape their development. How parents care for their adolescent children has a deep and lasting impact on their well-being and development. Yet, parents often require support to meet their own and their adolescent children’s needs, which can be achieved through parenting support program…

Upon entering the Newark Museum's reinstallation of its Arts of Global Africa collection, visitors are immediately greeted with Yinka Shonibare's spectacular Lady Walking a Tightrope (2006; Fig. 1). The life-size, headless female figure balances precariously on a rope stretching diagonally across a corner space. Lady Walking a Tightrope is positioned high—above eye-level, as any tightrope walker would be—and captures the immediate attention and t…

Jessica Vig, Kim S Miller et al.•ARTICLE•African Journal of AIDS Research•2016

While HIV prevention research conducted among adolescent populations may encounter parental resistance, the active engagement of parents from inception to trial completion may alleviate opposition. In preparation for implementing a large randomised controlled trial (RCT) examining the efficacy of a behavioural intervention targeting adolescent sexual risk behaviours, a formative evaluation was undertaken to assess parental reactions to the propos…

  • Exhibition Reviews

    Kim S Miller, Kim Miller•ARTICLE•African Arts•2015

“Contemporary Art/South Africa,” Yale's first of contemporary African art, showcased over thirty works produced in South Africa or by South Africans, including objects owned by Yale plus a range of artworks borrowed from museum and gallery collections nearby. Many of the works, predictably, addressed political issues as they overtly deal with the struggle against apartheid. But “Contemporary Art/South Africa” was much more than that. And the exhi…
