Countertransference
Countertransference was viewed from the perspective of a 2 x 2 x n factorial typology (source x degree of consciousness x depth). This typology incorporated the conscious and unconscious influences of nonpsychological variables and their theoretical schema upon the analyst's therapeutic recommendations
Racial Differences in Supervisors' Attitudes Toward Coworkers
Recent reviews of leadership have illustrated that Fiedler's (1967) model of leadership is one of the more fully developed theories for the explanation and prediction of effective leader behavior (Jacobs, 1970; Stogdill, 1974; Chemers and Rice, 1974; Hunt and Larson, 1974). This model, originating in investigations of interpersonal perception in psychotherapeutic settings (Fiedler, 1951), is based on the premise that effective leadership is conti…
The Effect of Race-Ratio Composition on the Frequency of Organizational Communication
Kanter's (1977a) tokenism hypothesis predicts that as minority and majority social types within a group reach numerical parity, interactional isolation between the two groups will diminish. In an exploratory manner, it was hypothesized that increasing minority representation in a group would also affect the group's total frequency of interaction. This prediction was tested with a sample of 96 supervisory cadre varying in the relative proportions …
Social Class Correlates of Perceived Offender Typicality
A mock juror-simulation was utilized to analyze the effect of socio-economic status on the tendency to be viewed as a typical offender. Student-subjects ( n = 386) were presented a newspaper article in which an individual, varied by social class, was being tried for one of two crimes, petty larceny or armed robbery. As hypothesized, the lower the stimulus person's social class, the lower the perceived personal attractiveness and the higher the te…
Effect of Prior Perpetration and Victimization upon Assignment of Criminal Responsibility
A mock juror-simulation was utilized to determine the effect of observers' prior perpetration and victimization upon attributions of responsibility for an illegal act. 386 student subjects were presented a newspaper article depicting a court case of an individual being tried for one of two crimes, petty larceny or armed robbery. As predicted, prior victimization was significantly correlated with attributed responsibility. However, a significant r…

An Objective Peer Evaluation Scale
A study was made of peer ratings obtained by having the raters evaluate their peers on objective criteria of officer excellence. A peer evaluation scale was described in which statements describing the peer were selected on the basis of content analyses of paragraphs describing outstanding and inferior candidates for the billet of Marine Corps officers. The statements were written by enlisted marines with an average of 3.5 yr of active service. T…
