Authenticity in Virtual and Human Influencer Donation Appeals
Virtual influencers (VIs) are increasingly deployed in prosocial campaigns, yet evidence regarding their effectiveness relative to human influencers (HIs) remains limited. This study examines how influencer type (VI vs. HI), emotional expression (happy vs. sad), and language style (formal vs. informal) shape perceived authenticity and subsequent donation intention. Using a 2 × 2 × 2 between-subjects experiment ( N = 400, U.S. adults), we demonstr…
Three Forms of Korean American Indirect Parental Warmth
Korean American parents express warmth indirectly (e.g., through devoted attention), which can be contrasted with explicit expressions of warmth (e.g., stating love, hugging). This study investigated three distinct forms of indirect warmth. Thoughtfulness involves parents anticipating and meeting children's needs before they are expressed. Devotion to education concerns prioritizing a supportive learning environment over parental interests. Guan …
South Korean adolescents' delinquency, disclosure, parental knowledge, parent–child closeness, and delinquent peer associations
The present study sought to examine longitudinal associations among delinquency, children's disclosure to parents, parent-child relationship quality, and parental knowledge in a South Korean sample. Longitudinal research shows that in Western samples, delinquency is negatively associated with the latter three variables. We also sought to test whether the associations varied across gender. We found little evidence of significant reciprocal relatio…

Parenting and children’s negative emotionality, self‐regulation, and academic skills
We examined whether fathers’ residency modified the associations among mothers’ supportiveness, father involvement, children’s negative emotionality during toddlerhood and children’s academic skills in pre‐kindergarten via children’s self‐regulation. Participants were 2,291 mothers ( M age = 23.24 years) and children ( M age = 14.99 months at Wave 1; 50.7% girls) in the Early Head Start Research and Evaluation Project. Results revealed distinctiv…

Feelings and Consumer Decision Making
This article presents the Appraisal‐Tendency Framework (ATF; Lerner & Keltner, 2000, 2001; Lerner & Tiedens, 2006) as a basis for predicting the influence of specific emotions on consumer decision making. In particular, the ATF addresses how and why specific emotions carry over from past situations to color future judgments and choices. After reviewing the main assumptions and the 5 main principles of the framework, 2 streams of research are pres…
Academic differentiation, school achievement and school violence in the USA and South Korea
Whilst school violence is a major public concern and a focus of educational reforms both in the USA and South Korea, few studies have comparatively examined the rates of school violence and school factors associated with them. Analysing nationally‐representative data from eighth graders, their mathematics teachers and principals in 150 South Korean schools and in 216 US schools, the authors found that: 1) the rates of school violence are higher i…
