  • Perceived Psychosocial Benefits Associated with Perceived Restorative Potential of Wilderness River-Rafting Trips

    Open Access•Rashmi Garg, Roger T Couture et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2010

Analysis of the restorative experiences and psychosocial benefits of wilderness river rafting trips of varying difficulty with 186 Canadian participants of different ages supported the restorative potential of natural settings for all age groups as measured by the Perceived Restorativeness Scale. The two-factor structure (General Restorativeness and Coherence) was confirmed. Significant associations were found between scores on the General Restor…

Rashmi Garg, Elizabeth Levin et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Comparative Family…•2005•Cited by: 5

This paper is an attempt to study the current size and structure of family according to different socio-demographic and economic characteristics of the households in India and its states. Data are obtained from the National Family Health Survey conducted in 1998-99 which covered a representative sample from 26 states in the country. Results suggest that the proportion of nuclear family households in 1998-99 increased relatively in both urban (9 p…

  • Academic and Nonacademic Self-Concepts

    Open Access•Rashmi Garg•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1992

For 150 undergraduate students (50 men, 100 women) the influences of demographic, social, health, and recent life-change experiences were examined on four facets of academic self-concept and nine facets of nonacademic self-concept. Multiple regression analyses showed that, in general, past academic performance, family structure, and family satisfaction were important predictors of academic self-concept. Family structure, family satisfaction, soci…

  • Ridge Regression in the Presence of Multicollinearity

    Open Access•Rashmi Garg•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1984

The ordinary least squares solution is generally applied to multiple regression problems in social sciences. When the intercorrelations among predictor variables are close to one, the estimates of regression coefficients obtained from ordinary least squares are very unstable. This situation is often referred to as near multicollinearity. When there is a problem of near mulricollinearity, the ridge regression provides an alternative to the ordinar…

  • An Empirical Comparison of Three Strategies Used in Extreme Group Designs

    Open Access•Rashmi Garg•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1983

The relationship between variables in experimental research is often investigated through the use of extreme group designs. Alf and Abrahams (1975) have described three statistical strategies and their merits for estimating the relationships in such designs. This Monte Carlo study is designed to investigate empirically the efficacy of these procedures in terms of their power and mean square error. Alf and Abrahams' "covariance information statist…
