Latent profile analysis of change fatigue among clinical nurses
Aim: To identify latent subgroups of change fatigue among clinical nurses and explore their associations with work engagement. Influencing factors of employment decisions among physical education majors
BACKGROUND: Physical education majors often encounter distinct challenges in making employment-related decisions, yet limited empirical research has explored the psychological factors influencing these decisions. Disparities in High‐Level Reading Skills Between Chinese Migrant and Urban Children
How to bridge the gap between the reading skills of rural‐to‐urban migrant children and children with urban permanent residence has long been a big challenge in the field of language and family education research. However, very few studies have focused on high‐level reading skills and their association with the home literacy environment and parental expectations. To address this issue, using a battery of reading comprehension and meta‐comprehensi…
Can Drawings Really Facilitate Children’s Symbolic Understanding of Metaphor
Despite the numerous studies on children’s symbolic understanding of metaphors, much remains unknown about the facilitating effect of drawings on the comprehension of metaphor and how it is associated with drawing skills and metaphor explicitness among young speakers of logo-graphic languages. To this end, 139 Chinese children between 7 and 11 year’s old were administered to three experimental conditions of draw-explain, explain-draw, and draw-ex…
Acute myasthenia caused by lithium
We report the case of an 18-year-old female patient with bipolar disorder who developed recurrent acute myasthenia after taking lithium. The myasthenia resolved upon discontinuation of lithium, and this occurred twice. The results of the cranial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), multiple sleep latency test, polysomnography, ambulatory electroencephalogram (EEG), and other tests were all negative. In summary, the patient's acute myasthenia was att…
Cross-Linguistic Association Between Phonological Awareness and Connected Speech Perception Skills of Chinese EFL Young Learners
Phonological awareness (PA) is of great significance to children’s early language learning and cognitive development. However, there has been a clear lack of research on the role of PA in developing children’s perception of connected speech in foreign languages. Thus, this study focused on the cross-linguistic association between PA and children’s connected speech perception skills. A total of 82 10- to-11-year-old Chinese English as a Foreign La…
Identification and classification of implicit speech acts among Chinese children in middle childhood
Despite the numerous studies on the perception of speech acts, very little is known about how children in middle childhood perceive implicit speech acts (ISA) across different ages. To this end, referring to the research paradigm described by Holtgraves ( 2005 , 2008 ), this study aimed to examine the identification and classification of utterances with implicit performatives among 621 Chinese children between the age of 9–13. The results indicat…
Is thyroid dysfunction a cause or a trigger of bipolar disorder? a case report
Here we report on a case of a 40-year-old female patient who presented with hypomanic episode after hyperthyroidism and major depressive episode after hypothyroidism, which was initially misdiagnosed as bipolar disorder due to another medical condition, and was found to be a co-morbid bipolar disorder of hyperthyroidism after treatment and follow-up. The course of diagnosis and treatment in this case suggests a close temporal relationship does no…
The Impact of Maternal Parenting Style on Sibling Relationships
This study, through a survey of two-child families in China and the UK, aimed to explore the differences, similarities, and associations between sibling relationships and maternal parenting styles from a transnational point of view. A total number of 107 mothers (UK: N = 55; China: N = 52) with two children were administered through a battery of online questionnaires respectively. Results showed no significant differences in the quality of siblin…

Predicting Progression of Covid-19 Infection to Prioritize Medical Resource Allocation
Background: The COVID-19 global pandemic has posed unprecedented challenges to health care systems all over the world. The speed of the viral spread results in a tsunami of patients, which begs for a reliable screening tool using readily available data to predict disease progression. Methods: Multicenter retrospective cohort study was performed to develop and validate a triage model. Patient demographic and non-laboratory clinical data were recor…

Leaders' sense of power and team performance
Organizational behavior researchers have typically focused on role- or structure-based power, such as hierarchical status and position in the social network. In contrast, we examined the psychological experience of power in organizations. Our purpose was to determine how and when a team leader's subjective sense of power is beneficial in an organizational context. Data were collected from 70 work teams using a 2-wave design to test the proposed m…

Comprehension of Verbal Communication Strategies Characterized by Chinese Primary School Students with Learning Disabilities
