Perceived involution reduces prosocial behavior
Involution refers to an endless, self-defeating, or pointless competition with others for power, money or other worldly reward. Complaints of involution perception-induced psychological distress have grown in prevalence. The present research aimed to examine whether perceived involution negatively predicts prosocial behavior and to investigate the mediating role of relative deprivation, as well as to explore self-compassion as a potential boundar…
Understanding Regional Cultural-Psychological Variations and Their Sources in China
This research comprehensively examined regional variations in individualism and collectivism within China and the explanatory power of 20 potential factors derived from the existing cultural psychological theories, including socioecological (e.g., climates, subsistence activities, and modernization) and population (e.g., ethnicity, genetic and linguistic features) ones. Projecting the Current Salient Relational Situations Into the Past and Future Across Cultures
The present research examined cultural differences in interpersonal memories and forecasts, situated in a currently salient positive or negative interpersonal context. We found that a negative focal event, compared to a positive one, led to more negative memories and forecasts of interpersonal encounters. The effect was stronger among Euro-Canadians than among Chinese. This was true regardless of whether the salient focal event was imagined or a …
The impact of materialism on prosocial behavior of Chinese adolescents
This study revealed the internal mechanism of the influence of materialism on prosocial behavior, and provides evidence for its causal relationship through experimental research. On the one hand, materialism negatively predicts prosocial behavior; on the other hand, materialism indirectly reduced prosocial behavior by reducing the meaning in life. Finally, gender moderated the relationship between meaning in life and prosocial behavior. Specifica…

Mortality salience and helping intentions
The results emphasize the importance of fostering search for meaning and negotiable fate beliefs to promote helping intentions when mortality is salient. This research advances understanding of how cultural beliefs and existential concerns interact to drive altruistic behavior, suggesting practical interventions to encourage prosocial actions in mortality-salient contexts

Lack of parental care increases depression of rural left-behind children in China
Does China's residential mobility reduce fertility intentions? The mediating role of well-being
With declining fertility rates becoming a global trend, it is crucial to enhance the fertility intentions of mobile individuals of reproductive age. This study utilizes both questionnaire surveys and experimental methods to examine the influence of residential mobility on fertility intentions and the mediating role of well-being. The consistent findings from Study 1 and Study 2 (2a and 2b) indicate that residential mobility significantly negative…

Meaning in Stressful Experiences and Coping Across Cultures
We report three studies to examine how culture may influence people’s tendency to see meaning in stressful experiences (MISE), as well as their coping responses. Using a newly developed MISE scale with established measurement invariance across both cultures, we found that Chinese participants were more likely than Euro-Canadians to see meaning in stressful experiences (Studies 1 and 2), to adopt acceptance and positive reframing coping styles (St…
