    Rajasthan is a large, unusually diverse state in western India. It has a long frontier with Pakistan, and from north to south touches the adjacent states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat. Rajasthan adds to its own internal, social, economic, and political complexity some of the features of each of these disparate neighbors. The dominant geological feature in Rajasthan is the Aravalli range, which runs south to north …

    The Mediterranean culture is not favorable to Ombudsmen. Israel alone, of the states within this area, has an officer, the State Comptroller, with functions similar to those of an Ombudsman. The Tribunis Plebis of republican Rome performed as a quasi-Ombudsman. But he lost this function during the Empire, and, consequently, it was not part of the Roman tradition bequeathed to the Middle Ages. The French system of administrative justice—or copies …

    The new Italian Constitution was written by the 556 deputies the Italian people elected to their first Constitutional Assembly on June 2, 1946. The Assembly approved the Constitution on December 22, 1947, by a vote of 453 favorable, 62 opposed, and 31 absent. After this approval the Constitution was promulgated by the Provisional President of Italy, Enrico de Nicola, and became effective ten days later, on January 1, 1948. Numerous evaluations of…
