  • Comprehensive literature review on EFL teachers’ attitude, professional development, institutional support and identity

Open Access•Jian Zhao, Shanina Sharatol Ahmad Shah et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Education•2026

Introduction The professional identity of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers is increasingly shaped by evolving educational reforms, institutional expectations, and professional development opportunities. Despite growing scholarly interest, the interrelationship between teacher attitudes, professional growth, and institutional support remains conceptually fragmented. Methods This systematic literature review synthesises 40 peer-reviewed…

  • Evaluating Paleoclimate Evolution of Alluvial Plain Using Sediment Grain Size Analysis

Open Access•Xinrong Zhang, Yan Gong et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary•2026

Alluvial plains in the marginal zone of the monsoon system are sensitive to the climate–hydrology interaction. However, long term, high-resolution sedimentary records remain scarce in the Songnen Plain of Northeast China. This limited our understanding of the paleoclimate–paleohydrology coupling evolution over glacial–interglacial cycles. A 50.6 m continuous core was retrieved from the western Songnen Plain. The age–depth model and wavelet transf…

Open Access•Pengcheng An, Chaoyu Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2025

Despite being prominent and ubiquitous, message-based communication is limited in nonverbally conveying emotions. Besides emoticons or stickers, messaging users continue seeking richer options for affective communication. Recent research explored using chat-balloons’ shape and color to communicate emotional states . However, little work explored whether and how chat-balloon animations could be designed to convey emotions. We present the design of…

Over the past two decades, the Chinese language has emerged as a global language. Gulf Cooperation Council countries, such as Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, have integrated Chinese language into their educational systems and established Confucius Institutes to promote Chinese language and culture. In Qatar, interest in Chinese language education has risen, though not as pronounced as its neighbouring countries. This article,…

Open Access•Khadejah F Mahmoud, Jian Zhao et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Nursing Education•2024

Background: An accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program was introduced in an effort to reduce the nursing shortage in response to the growing health demands. Nursing educators strive to examine factors that promote students' success in passing the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) on their first attempt. However, little is known about which factors predict the NCLEX-RN first-time pass rate of…

  • Impacts of enhanced new-particle growth events above urban roughness sublayer on cloud condensation nuclei

Open Access•Wei Du, Jian Zhao et al.•ARTICLE•One Earth•2024

New-particle formation (NPF) events are frequently observed in urban environments, yet their occurrence and climate effects are still in question. We analyzed the physical and chemical processes during the new-particle growth (NPG) at the ground and 260 m based on measurements on the 325-m tower in the megacity of Beijing, China. Our results provide evidence for stronger NPG aloft in city, mainly due to the higher production of sulfuric acid alof…

    Open Access•Jian Zhao, Zhao Jian•ARTICLE•The Tourist Review•1987

Main Difficulties Traditionally agriculture and industry were — until recent times — the only real resources. Historical events and the political situation empeded the government to pay the necessary attention to the economical and cultural advantages of national and international tourism. Another hindrance was the negative opinion — one of the long‐lasting consequences of the “Cultural Revolution” — about Lu‐lio (travel and sight‐seeing), which …

Open Access•Jian Zhao, Chang Su et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2018

The obesity rate in China has risen significantly in the past few decades. While a number of causes for the rise in obesity have been explored, little attention has been paid to the role of health insurance per se. This study aims to investigate the impact of health insurance on the risk of obesity in rural China using longitudinal data from the China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS). We employed pooled ordinary least squares (OLS), probit esti…

  • Virtual Reality-Based Fuzzy Spatial Relation Knowledge Extraction Method for Observer-Centered Vague Location Descriptions

Open Access•Jun Xu, Xin Pan et al.•ARTICLE•ISPRS International Journal of…•2021

Many documents contain vague location descriptions of observed objects. To represent location information in geographic information systems (GISs), these vague location descriptions need to be transformed into representable fuzzy spatial regions, and knowledge about the location descriptions of observer-to-object spatial relations must serve as the basis for this transformation process. However, a location description from the observer perspectiv…
