  • Archaeometrical Investigation of Sicilian Early Byzantine Glass

Open Access•Rossella Arletti, Carlotta Giacobbe et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2010•Cited by: 6•References: 25

A series of early Byzantine glasses, recovered in Ganzirri (Sicily, Italy), was analysed for major, minor and trace elements. All the analysed fragments were found to be natron‐based silica–lime glass. Concerning minor and trace elements, the samples can be divided into two groups: glass with high Fe, Ti and Mn contents ( HIMT glass) and glass with low levels of Fe, Ti and Mn. These results, strictly in agreement with literature data for glass of…

  • Volcanic rocks in medieval building materials from north-eastern Sicily and southern Calabria

    Open Access•M Triscari, G Sabatino et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cultural Heritage•2006•Cited by: 1

  • Chemical Characterization and Statistical Multivariate Analysis of Ancient Pottery From Messina, Catania, Lentini and Siracusa (Sicily)

Open Access•Germana Barone, Antonino Lo Giudice et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2005•Cited by: 7•References: 7

This paper presents the chemical characterization of 79 fragments of Archaic and Hellenistic fine‐grained pottery from archaeological sites in Messina, Catania, Lentini and Siracusa (Sicily). The sherds were classified as ‘calcidian’, ‘banded’, ‘unvarnished’ and ‘black varnished’ pottery. The major and trace elements identified by X‐ray fluorescence (XRF) were statistically elaborated using the method proposed by J. Aitchinson in 1986 for the ana…
