  • The scientific investigation for the study and conservation of the wooden model of S. Maria della Consolazione's church (Todi, Italy)

Open Access•Angela Lo Monaco, Elisabetta Mattei et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cultural Heritage•2013

  • Non-invasive archaeological exploration in stratigraphically complex rural settings

Open Access•Pier Matteo Barone, Elisabetta Mattei et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological and Anthropological…•2013•Cited by: 1•References: 16

  • A Micro‐raman and Internal Microstratigraphic Study of Ceramic Sherds From the Kilns of the Medici Castle at Cafaggiolo

Open Access•Alberto De Santis, Elisabetta Mattei et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2012•Cited by: 1•References: 42

Nine representative sherds from the old (14th–16th century) kilns at the Castle of Cafaggiolo in Tuscany have been analysed by means of internal microstratigraphic analyses and micro‐Raman spectroscopy and classified as follows: six engobed and glazed fragments, of which three are covered with an opaque white, decorated layer, one is marbleized, and two are engobed. The surface of the two engobed sherds, fragments of unfinished products, indicate…

  • Mapping the Undiscovered Ruins of Pompeii (Naples, Italy) Using Ground Penetrating Radar

Open Access•Elena Pettinelli, Pier Matteo Barone et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2012•Cited by: 1•References: 14

The ground penetrating radar (GPR) technique was tested in Pompeii, in an unexplored area where the Roman ruins are partially buried in the volcanic deposits. The method was also combined with time domain reflectometry (TDR) measurements to estimate the dielectric properties of the different volcanic units. In spite of the total thickness of the covering materials and the high signal attenuation measured in some layers, the radar was able to show…

  • Ground‐penetrating Radar in the Regio III (Pompeii, Italy)

    Open Access•Pier Matteo Barone, T Bellomo et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological Prospection•2011•Cited by: 1•References: 4

Ground‐penetrating radar (GPR) investigations were performed in Pompeii, in an area of the Regio III that is not yet fully excavated but is bounded by areas where much is known about the ancient Roman city. At the site studied, large areas containing preserved archaeological features are buried under as much as 8 m of volcanic deposits. The GPR survey was conducted using perpendicular reflection profiles in a grid adjacent to a scarp parallel to …
