  • Political Dynamics Surrounding Tanzania’s Education Policy Changes and Major Issues

Hae Won Lee, Sung Soo Kim et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of international area…•2023

  • Association of High-Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein and Alcohol Consumption on Metabolic Syndrome in Korean Men

Open Access•Yong Woo Lee, Sung Soo Kim et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Background: This study aimed to examine the effect of both alcohol consumption and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) on metabolic syndrome (MetS) in Korean men. Methods: A cohort of 364 men included in this study was divided into four groups according to the amount of alcohol they consumed: the nondrinkers (ND), low moderate drinkers (LM, ≤7 standard drinks per week), high moderate drinkers (HM, 7 to 14 drinks per week), and heavy drink…

  • The Effect of Alcohol Drinking on Metabolic Syndrome and Obesity in Koreans

Open Access•Eun Jung Park, Hye Jung Shin et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of alcohol consumption on metabolic syndrome (MetS) and obesity in Koreans by analysis of big data from the National Health Insurance Service health checkup database. A total of 26,991,429 subjects aged 20 years or older were included. Alcohol consumption was divided into five groups: nondrinkers, ≤7.0 g/d, 7.1-14.0 g/d, 14.1-28.0 g/d, ≥28.1 g/d. Logistic regression analyses were performed after …

  • Turning a Blind or Critical Eye to Leader Value Breaches

Open Access•Sandra E Cha, Sung Soo Kim et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Leadership &…•2020•References: 40

How do employees react when an organizational leader commits a value breach (i.e., behaves in a way that employees perceive as inconsistent with the organization’s espoused values)? Prior research provides a mixed view: Employees may conclude that the leader lacks integrity, or they may maintain their perception of the leader’s integrity, despite the breach. We focus on the role of person–organization value congruence in determining employee reac…

  • How do callings relate to job performance? The role of organizational commitment and ideological contract fulfillment

    Open Access•Sung Soo Kim, Dong-Hoon Shin et al.•ARTICLE•Human Relations•2018•Cited by: 8•References: 116

Do individuals with callings perform better than those without? Why or why not? There are not clear answers to these questions in the literature. Using a social exchange framework, we posit an intervening process between callings and job performance, focusing on the role of organizational commitment and ideological contract fulfillment – the degree to which organizations live up to their ideological promises. Specifically, individuals with callin…

  • Function of Korean black ginseng

Open Access•Mina Kim, Sang Yoon Choi et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnic Foods•2016•References: 5

Korean ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer), the native ginseng of Korea, has traditionally been widely used for thousands of years in Korea. Various biological functions of Korean ginseng have been reported. However, there have not been many studies on its effect on andropause. As women reach menopause, they show a sudden decrease in female hormone levels; men also undergo similar endocrinologic changes. Andropause is also referred to as late-onse…

Although, historically, nutrition and stimulation interventions may have been delivered separately, they are increasingly being tested as a package of early childhood interventions that synergistically improve outcomes over the life course. However, implementation at scale is seldom possible without first considering …

  • Strategies for managing impressions of racial identity in the workplace

Laura Weiss Roberts, Laura Morgan Roberts et al.•ARTICLE•Cultural Diversity & Ethnic…•2014•Cited by: 5•References: 14

This article deepens understanding of the workplace experiences of racial minorities by investigating racial identity-based impression management (RIM) by Asian American journalists. Racial centrality, directly or indirectly, predicted the use of 4 RIM strategies (avoidance, enhancement, affiliation, and racial humor). Professional centrality also predicted strategy use, which was related to life satisfaction and perceived career success. By shed…

  • Alpha-tocopherol Prevents H2O2-induced Tight Junction Occludin Disruption in Blood-Brain Barrier

Hee Sang Lee, Kee Namkoong et al.•ARTICLE•Korean Journal of Physical…•2006•Cited by: 1•References: 1

Vitamin E is the most important lipid-soluble antioxidant in humans. Although alpha-tocopherol is suggested that it has protective effect from many diseases, little is known about the prevention of occludin alteration in tight junction of blood-brain barrier (BBB) under pathologic insults producing reactive oxygen species (ROSs). In this study, the effects of alpha-tocopherol on H2O2-induced tight junction occludin were studied. Primary culture o…

Moo Yeol Lee, Sang Hyung Lee et al.•ARTICLE•Korean Journal of Physical…•2004

Endogenously or exogenously generated oxidative stress impair organs, especially brain. Also, the oxidative stress appears to be a negative factor on normal brain function, like memory and cognition. Our result showed that BF-7, extracted from Bombyx mori, effectively diminished oxidative stress, leading to the protection of neuron from reactive oxygen species donated by . Clinical experiments showed that BF-7 significantly improved memory and co…
