  • The ethnographic turn in regenerative studies: Co-Creation as a Collaborative Learning Process

Markus Gerke, Maree Gerke et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Organizational…•2025•References: 25

Purpose This study aims to establish that (1) an ethnographic turn in researching regenerative practices and processes is underway and (2) in engaging with regenerative practices and processes, ethnography itself is undergoing a regenerative turn. Design/methodology/approach To demonstrate how the paradigm shift toward regenerative practices across fields may translate into an equally regenerative approach in ethnographic research, this article d…

  • Entrepreneuring for regenerative tourism. Doing business differently in Tasmania’s regional hospitality industry

Open Access•Maree Gerke, Matt Adams et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Sustainable Tourism•2023•Cited by: 4•References: 7

Regenerative tourism has gained ground during the pandemic crisis as a set of practices and processes that have the potential to refashion the industry. Based on a co-created ethnographic case study focussing on a local restaurant in a popular tourism region in Tasmania, this study raises the question as to what business strategies offer opportunities for regenerative practices to materialise and mitigate concomitant challenges in a post-pandemic…

  • Data analytics for improved closest hospital suggestion for EMS operations in New York City

Open Access•Audrey Olivier, Matt Adams et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainable Cities and Society•2022

In addition to fires and various other emergencies, the Fire Department of New York City (FDNY) responds to medical emergencies throughout New York City. When a patient requires hospital care, the FDNY uses a hospital suggestion pattern to recommend the closest hospital that can appropriately treat the patient, given the geographic location of the incident. In a city like New York with a high density of hospitals, determining the closest hospital…

  • Gifting in Museums: Using Multiple Time Orientations to Heighten Present-Moment Engagement

Jocelyn Spence, Dimitrios Darzentas et al.•ARTICLE•Human-Computer Interaction•2021

HCI has recently increased its interest in the domains of museums and gifting. The former is often oriented primarily towards the past, while the latter is often oriented towards the future, in terms of anticipating the receiver’s reactions. Our article provides a sustained and well-evidenced new theoretical framework on the role of time-orientation on the design of forward-oriented (gifting) experiences in past-oriented (museum) settings. This T…

  • Competency-Based Education: Examining Educators’ Experiences

    Open Access•Andrea J Bingham, Andrea Bingham et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Report•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 2

Competency-based education (CBE) is an increasingly popular instructional model in K-12 schools. In this qualitative case study, we examine how teachers make sense of CBE, and what challenges they in implementing a CBE model. We find that CBE teachers’ teaching identities had to undergo a shift to truly engage in CBE. Rather than acting as conveyors and assessors of knowledge, teachers had to construct their classrooms in a way that engaged and s…

  • Mockery and Morality in Popular Cultural Representations of the White, Working Class

    Open Access•J Raisborough, Matt Adams•ARTICLE•Sociological Research Online•2008•Cited by: 15•References: 33

We draw on 'new' class analysis to argue that mockery frames many cultural representations of class and move to consider how it operates within the processes of class distinction. Influenced by theories of disparagement humour, we explore how mockery creates spaces of enunciation, which serve, when inhabited by the middle class, particular articulations of distinction from the white, working class. From there we argue that these spaces, often pre…

  • Recollections of September 11 in Three English Villages: Identifications and Self-Narrations

    Matt Adams, Penny Jane Burke•ARTICLE•New Community•2006•References: 9

This paper examines the responses of adults of white ethnicity in three English villages to media coverage of the attacks of 11 September 2001. We analyse how news narratives set up particular kinds of identification with which audiences engage and/or disengage. We highlight the emotional, ambivalent and contradictory nature of identifications and dis-identifications which respondents make with the victims and perpetrators of the attacks. We expl…
