    Open Access•Bernd Gliwa, Daiva Šeškauskaitė•ARTICLE•Studia mythologica Slavica•2015

The article deals with the processes around procreation, childbearing and birth as they are described in Lithuanian tales, legends and customs. It asks the question at which moment the fetus or child aquires a soul. Mythic beings related to the early ontogenesis are laimė ‘fortuna’ and laumė ‘fairy’, who have been often mixed. It is shown that the changeling brought by laumė refers to the custom of making a doll and exchanging it with the newly b…

  • Nochmals zu apr. mosla ‘leimat’

    Open Access•Bernd Gliwa•ARTICLE•Baltistica•2009

DAR KARTĄ DĖL PR. mosla ‘LEIMAT’ Autorius siūlo naują požiūrį į pr. mosla GrG73, kurio vok. atitikmuo leimat galėtų būti atsiradęs klaidingai perrašant *leinsat ‘linų sėmenys’. Dalykiškai šis žodis sietinas su hanfsaet – gnabsem ‘kanapės sėkla’ GrG66, hanf – Caneips ‘kanapės’ GrG74 ir flachs – lino ‘linas’ GrG72. Pr. mosla tada galima aiškinti tradiciškai kaip skolinį iš le. masło ‘sviestas, riebalai’, ypač ‘linų sėmenų aliejus’, kuris virto ‘lin…

  • Ist litauisch túopa ’Pappel’ wirklich ein Erbwort

    Open Access•Bernd Gliwa•ARTICLE•Baltistica•2008

Lo. žodžio etimologija nėra aiški, nėra pagrindo rekonstruoti ide. *pōp- ar pan. Neaiški ir *puopa reikšmė…

    Open Access•Bernd Gliwa•ARTICLE•Studia mythologica Slavica•2005

The paper discusses Lithuanian legends on sunken animals and objects in lakes and swamps. Moving through a water barrier means passing into the Otherworld, as is seen in tales ATU 480, e.g. „Frau Holle“. Cows resting on the ground of waters are images of the dead in the meadows of the Otherworld. The sinking has been interpretated as a funeral, while the rise to the surface is connected with images of childgiving. It results in the prediction of a…

Svarstoma keletas prūsų kalbos rūpimo žodžio kilmės variantų, manant, kad lo. viscus „amalas, klijai iš amalo, spąstai paukščiams su klijais“ teisingai perteikia pr. mosla. 1.
