  • A science-based product regulation

Open Access•Michael Kunze, José Roberto Santin et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Tobacco control has focused on reducing use, with little emphasis on regulating product toxicity. Articles 9 and 10 of the World Health Organization's Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) offer a mechanism to reduce harm by limiting toxic emissions, but implementation has stalled. A science-based regulatory framework is needed to set emission thresholds for toxicants. Inspiration can be found from other regulated sectors, and the initia…

  • A Community-Based Approach to Assessing the Success of London, Ontario’s Whole of Community System Response to Health and Homelessness

Open Access•Matthew Meyer, C Nadine Wathen et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2025

Introduction: Homelessness, and it’s associated challenges, have reached crisis levels across Canada and in many places around the world. The lack of safe, supportive, and affordable housing has led to unprecedented numbers of people experiencing homelessness and housing precarity. Coupled with under-resourced social support services and an over-stretched healthcare system, this has led to avoidable death and suffering. In London, Ontario, Canada…

  • Eating and dieting differences in men and women

Ingrid Kiefer, Theres Rathmanner et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Men's Health &…•2005

There are some considerable gender-specific differences in many areas of nutrition. Several of them already emerge in childhood or adolescence. Women have a higher awareness and better knowledge of nutrition than men. They also seek nutrition counselling more frequently than men do. Women eat more fruits, vegetables, cereals, milk, dairy products and whole grain products, whereas the consumption of red meat, particularly pork, sausages, eggs, alc…

  • European Union policy on smokeless tobacco

    Open Access•Clive Bates, K Fagerström et al.•ARTICLE•Tobacco Control•2003

We believe that the EU policy on smokeless tobacco should adapt to new scientific knowledge and that the European Commission should bring forward proposals to amend or replace Article 8 of directive 2001/37/EC with a new regulatory framework. Canada has developed testing regimens for tobacco constituents and these could be readily adapted to the European situation. A review of EU policy in this area is required no later than December 2004, and we…

  • Austrian dream behavior

Robert Stepansky, Brigitte Holzinger et al.•ARTICLE•Dreaming•1998•Cited by: 12•References: 3

This study was based on a survey of a representative sample of 1000 Austrians who were questioned about their sleep and dream behavior. About two-thirds of the respondents reported that they generally recalled at least one dream per month. Dream recall frequency decreased with advancing age, but did not differ between men and women. Fifty-five percent of the respondents characterized the affective content of their dreams: 29% reported neutral, 20…

  • Nicotine dependence versus smoking prevalence

    K O Fagerström, Michael Kunze et al.•ARTICLE•Tobacco Control•1996

Successful tobacco control may result in a higher dependence among the remaining smokers (due to selective quitting by low-dependent smokers). The remaining highly dependent smokers may need more intensive treatment

  • Problems in Treatment and Nursing of Cancer Patients

    Open Access•Rudolf Schoberberger, Anita Schmeiser-Rieder et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Psychology•1996•Cited by: 1•References: 7

Treatment and nursing of cancer patients place great demands on physicians, nurses and the patients' families. The enormous emotional strain on the patient may lead to frustration and 'burnout' among health-care professionals. This article consists of three steps: (a) a qualitative analysis based on a discussion with experts in oncology; (b) a questionnaire investigation of physicians and nurses; and (c) training courses for interested physicians…

  • Self reported prevalence and treatment of sleep disorders in Austria
