  • Differences in the association between avoidance and environmental rewards by three symptoms of depression

Open Access•Shuntaro Aoki, Satomi Doi et al.•ARTICLE•Current Psychology•2023

  • Comparison of Interdependent and Subjective Happiness between Japanese and Thai College Students: A Research Note

    Open Access•Hitomi Aoyama, Satoshi Horiuchi•ARTICLE•Social Sciences•2023•References: 2

Cross-cultural studies have suggested that happiness in Eastern countries is characterized by a greater extent of relationships and harmony with others than in Western countries; however, happiness levels may differ across Asian countries. A comparison of happiness levels between Japan and Thailand provides a unique opportunity to identify this difference. Thailand has experienced rapid economic growth, going from a low-income to an upper-middle-…

  • Processes of change, pros, cons, and self-efficacy as variables associated with stage transitions for effective stress management over a month: A longitudinal study

Open Access•Ke Deng, Akira Tsuda et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Psychology•2022

Evidence of stage misclassification indicated the limitations of the model's stage classification. Experiential processes and self-efficacy as predictors at different stages were in line with the model's assumption that different variables are assumed to be predictors of stage transitions at different stages, partially supporting the utility of the stage classification

  • Self-efficacy, pros, and cons as variables associated with adjacent stages of change for regular exercise in Japanese college students

Open Access•Satoshi Horiuchi, Akira Tsuda et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Psychology•2017•References: 16

This study examined self-efficacy (confidence to exercise), pros (exercise’s advantages), and cons (exercise’s disadvantages) as variables associated across the transtheoretical model’s six stages of change in 403 Japanese college students. A series of logistic regression analyses were conducted. Results showed that higher pros and lower cons were associated with being in contemplation compared to precontemplation. Lower cons were associated with…

  • Validity of the six stages of change for exercise

Open Access•Satoshi Horiuchi, Akira Tsuda et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Psychology•2013•Cited by: 1•References: 22

We examined the validity of 'Transtheoretical Model of Behavior Change' six stages in exercise domain. A paper-pencil survey was completed by 457 workers. Self-efficacy tended to increase from Precontemplation to Action, did not change from Action to Maintenance, and then increase from Maintenance to Termination. Pros tended to increase and cons decrease only from Precontemplation to Action. A follow-up survey was completed by 331 workers. More p…

  • Reliability and validity of the Japanese language version of Pro‐Change's decisional balance measure for effective stress management 1

Open Access•Satoshi Horiuchi, Akira Tsuda et al.•ARTICLE•Japanese Psychological Research•2012

This study aimed to develop the Japanese language version of Pro‐Change's decisional balance measure for effective stress management (PDSM). Effective stress management refers to activities that are practiced, for at least 20 min per day, to reduce a person's perceived stress. Six hundred and sixty‐five female and 456 male Japanese university and college students participated in this study, which consists of two surveys. Through exploratory and c…

  • Relationships between stage of change for stress management behavior and perceived stress and coping: Stage and perceived stress and coping

Open Access•Satoshi Horiuchi, Akira Tsuda et al.•ARTICLE•Japanese Psychological Research•2010

The main aim of this study was to examine the relationships between stage of change, which was guided by the transtheoretical model, for stress management behavior and perceived stress and coping. First, we developed the Korean version of the Rhode Island Stress and Coping Inventory (RISCI). Second, we related stage of change for stress management behavior to perceived stress and coping. Based on two surveys that we conducted (n = 530 for survey …
