  • Sunbed Use among 11- to 17-Year-Olds and Estimated Number of Commercial Sunbeds in England with Implications for a ‘Buy-Back’ Scheme

Open Access•Louisa G Gordon, Rob Hainsworth et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2021

Prior to 2011 legislation prohibiting children from using commercial sunbeds, the prevalence of sunbed use in 15- to 17-year-olds in some areas in England was as high as 50%. Despite significant decreases since 2011, children today still practice indoor tanning. We estimated current sunbed use in 11- to 17-year-olds in England, the number of available commercial sunbed units, and the associated cost of a 'buy-back' scheme to remove commercial sun…

  • Predicting presenteeism using measures of health status

Open Access•Cheryl Jones, Katherine Payne et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2021

This study provides indicative evidence that two existing measures of health status (SF6D and EQ5D-5L) have a quantifiable relationship with a measure of presenteeism (WPAI) for an exemplar application of working individuals with RA. A future study should assess the external validity of the proposed mapping algorithms

  • Using qualitative methods for a conceptual analysis of measures of health status and presenteeism prior to a mapping study

Open Access•Cheryl Jones, Katherine Payne et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2020

The results of the study indicate conceptual validity of both health status measures to predict presenteeism. The next step is to develop a mapping algorithm for presenteeism

  • ‘You don't get told anything, they don't do anything and nothing changes’. Medicine as a resource and constraint in progressive ataxia

    Open Access•Gavin Daker‐white, Helen Kingston et al.•ARTICLE•Health Expectations•2015

BACKGROUND: Progressive ataxias are neurological disorders affecting balance, co-ordination of movement and speech. OBJECTIVE: A qualitative study was undertaken to discover patients' experiences of ataxia and its symptoms. PARTICIPANTS: Thirty-eight people with ataxia recruited from patient support groups and two hospital outpatients departments. DESIGN: Cross-sectional qualitative study with thematic analysis. RESULTS: These accounts highlight …

  • Variation in healthcare services for specialist genetic testing and implications for planning genetic services

Open Access•Mark Harrison, Stephen Birch et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Community Genetics•2015

  • Patient Empowerment in Clinical Genetics Services

Open Access•Marion Mcallister, Katherine Payne et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Psychology•2008•Cited by: 3•References: 35

Outcome measurement in clinical genetics is problematic because the patient benefits are difficult to measure. The aim in this qualitative grounded theory study was to develop a theoretical framework describing the patient benefits from using clinical genetics services. Seven focus groups and 19 interviews were conducted with patients, patient group representatives, and health professionals. Data analysis resulted in construction of a model of em…
